General opinion is F1's are better in the wet. Toyo's are just as or almost as good as F1's in the dry. They are considerable cheaper and some people have reported the F1's side walls are a bit soft fot their liking, hence I bought the Toyo's.

I have Toyos on my 00wagon, seem to grip solidly in the wet. Just at 8 months ware now so thinking of changing the rear to the front, but as tyres go they are pretty durable and damn cheaper than the competition.

Autocar 14th Oct ed tyre test recommends the Pirelli Pzero rosso closely followed by the Goodyear F1 - the Toyo was average. I have a couple of other mag tests including a really comprehensive one where the Goodyear F1 comes top

F1s and Toyos are the most popular choice. I've tried quite a few over the last four years with two Scoobies (MY00 and MY01) and in a variety of sizes from 16" to 18".
While tyre choice does come down to your personal preference, here are a few general conclusions:
Standard fit Bridgestone REO10s - in any size are naff - worst thing about the car when I bought it.
Pirelli Pzeros (in 18") on my MY01. Tyre was OK grip wise, but they tramlined badly after only 8000 miles or so. So bad, that I simply wouldn't fit another set.
Bridgestone S02 - outstanding in wet and dry - difficult to get hold of now though.
Bridgestone S03 - very hard wearing good grip (not quite upto S02 standards) and much less tramlining than the Pirellis (mind you, that wasn't difficult).
Toyo T1-s - very good tyre. Dry grip great, wet grip OK - although I would say the F1 is better (haven't tried them personally, but I've been a passenger in many cars with them fitted). I've used Toyos in 17" and 18". It is what I have fitted at the moment and I wouldn't hesitate to fit them again. Softer tyre than the S03, so not quite so hard wearing, but they are superior in terms of grip (and they look better ).
Once you have your tyres fitted, check the old ones for uneven wear. It is a common Scooby problem and it is well worth paying out to have the alignment/tracking sorted as this can transform the handling of the car and ensure that your tyres wear evenly.
My car was done at Powerstation and when I swapped my current Toyo's front to rear after 9000 miles or so, there was totally even wear across the front tyres.
One last thing, the Toyos don't seem to tram line like some tyres. It is always going to be an issue on large low profile tyres, but the Toyos do seem to resist better than most.

I think Chris above is spot on.
I have Toyo on my STiV3, 16x205x50 and they are great. They are half worn now and are greater still! Block tread height at first is a pain, but as they wear it all gets better. I even hill climbed my car on them, great. They seem to suit Scoobys.
I now run P1 wheels and Kumho Ecsta V70's which are a country mile above Toyo, road legal but realy a soft race tyre, but the grip....
fit Toyo's and be happy!
Graham.

yeah, I personally hate my Toyo's and will be glad to see the back of them. Great in the dry, but appauling in the wet.
Possibly just my style of driving, but I've tried to drive around them and just don't have the confidence.
Never believe what some magazine claims are the best. It's not them driving your car. But, I guess without experience of your own, it's one of the only things to go on.
I preferred the Goodyear F1's. Great grip in the dry and wet.

Tyre pressures play a big role to, and I fully accept the driving style angle. Never tried F1's, but the Toyos were realy nice @ 35psi all round, but my STi has a lot of suspension work done to it also. Still think SO2 pp's were the best!

I've done about 1500 miles now on my Toyo Proxes T1-S's and I must say they are great. Great grip in the dry and the wet ... I'm comparing them to the Pirelli's which were standard on the UK300's. Tyre size is 225/40/ZR18 ...
I paid £118 per corner @ Tyres Northampton all in - great service and I'm thoroughly impressed with these tyres, far superior in every way IMHO to the Pirelli's.
Again, its down to personal preference but I'd stick with the Toyos next time or go for F1's - been in a mate's UK300 with these tyres and seem just as good, but are a little pricier. Plump for either and I doubt one will be disappointed
Cheers

PS I used to have ZZ1's on my old MY99 ... glad to hear the ZZ3's are better

I agree with Ozzy, the Toyo's in the wet are dire, the price has increased for them now which makes not choosing them easier.
Dont always believe what you read as on here Toyo's get a good rating and i only got them as they came with my new wheel package but i wouldnt use them again.
I've just ordered Avon ZZZ 3's and will seee how they perform.
