Does anyone else with a 'Classic' suffer from tramlining, ie, car veering left or right uncommanded? A particular section of road on my work-home journey causes my car to steer all over the place and on one corner (no obvious camber) the car will happily steer round by itself.
I'm wondering if the tyres are the cause. 215/40/17 Eagle F1's on MY99 RB5.
Car also twitches at the front occasionally when crossing a white line.
Just wondering if this is a characteristic or if my tracking/ geommetry need looking at. At all other times car feels planted and limpit like.

Its what happens when the tyres start to get worn. Check inside edges of tyres for wear just incase geometry is out. Its just started on my GDS3s with 15k on them - I swopped front/rear and its much better.

 

Thanks PTMW, but the car has always done it and the tyres were new when I bought the car. OK, the tyres have now done 10k but there's plenty of tread left and the problem hasn't got worse with wear. It only happens on one particular stretch of road.

I get this on a certain road near me, i put it down to the characteristics of that particular road rather than a problem with my car.

Probably won't add much to the debate, but here's my 2p woth anyway.... My classic wrx is set up with Prodrive geometry, shod with Yokahama A539 rubber & yes, at times I do get the "hmm, which front wheel wants to brake better" feeling..... It's always done this. Tyres are starting to wear on the inside fronts - that's what you get with the settings - but has not made the matter worse. It doesn't seem too much of a scary moment feeling, once you get to know it might happen.

By the way, the tyres, although they lasted for 30 thou miles & still have tread to spare, are great in the dry but ARE scarry in the wet ! Will be looking at F1's next......

 

Unfortunately it is something you just have to live with as when you get larger and therefore wider wheels, they will start to follow the dips and small gulleys that are in our beautiful roads.
Just make sure that your tracking and camber is right and it should make life a bit easier but not perfect .

 

Izzy - 30k + on Yokos? Are you sure you're driving it properly?

 

Toyos on a 16" - not a hint of tramlining. The previous Bridgestone Potenzas were terrible for it though, would be nervous going near kerbs and down narrow lanes!
