Brake advice

Please can someone help a technical numpty like me!!
Have a sport 2.0 ('00) classic shape and am in need of new brakes as the current ones are squealing and grinding like good 'uns.
my knowledge of brakes is limited and am confused over 2pots / 4 pots etc etc
Not looking to spend shed loads on brakes but as i said am in need of new ones
What are my options??
