Advice on best wet performance tyres
#1
What are the best wet performance tyres for a scooby ? (16" wheels).
I find Potenza's slip about far too much on the corners and feel nervous at speed on long motorway bends.
Heard good things about Toyo's... any opinions ?

Ive just had Toyo's fitted to my car, also 17"ers and they are great in the wet but i find them a bit vague in the dry ? I had P-Zero's on before which were better in the dry but the Toyo's are 100% better in the wet.

I'd say go for Eagle F1 GSD3's.
If you do want to try out Toyo, then I've got a couple of 205/50ZR16's that I'm happy to part with for a small sum.
They are evenly worn and about halfway through there life after being on the rear of my Scooby.

PS Goodyear F1's win by a big margin over the Toyos on standard 16's

i've had 2 really good rain tyres in the past
uniroyals (they are famous for been goood in the wet), i had 205/40/17's and with these on it was almost like driving in the dry.
&
toyo proxes. I currently have these on my scooby 215/35/18, and as someone else said before, they are very good throgh standing water. Definatelly recommended.

Thanks for all the advice.
Sounds like the Eagle F1's are a good choice.
What's the difference between the GSD2 and GSD3 ?
And how do they perform when they reach the limit of their traction ? The Potenza's are slippy but the nice thing about them is when they start to give on a sharp corner, they do it slowly and regain traction quickly if you ease off. Do the F1's behave as predictably or is there a sudden loss when they go over ?

GSD2 is older type now replaced by GSD3.
GSD3 is quieter and much stiffer (carcass / sidewall).
GSD3 are still nice and progressive but felt, initialy, as thought the car was a bit more tippy-toe than on the GSD2........

The toyos would start to loose grip far too early in the wet IMHO and the FI's seem to be a bit more realistic. I felt I seemed to spend half my time driving in the wet with the Toyos giving way and it became a delicate balance as you don't have much margin for error or correction when you are already sliding
That's what I felt anyway

I must be one of the very few who prefer Toyos over Goodyear F1's,
Just changed from Toyos 16-inch to part worn (but still plenty of tread) F1's on 17inch.
In damp conditions the F1's are all over the place compared to the Toyos. Driving to Japfest last weekend and it was quite a handful trying to keep up with the other scoobies in the lanes, I've lost a lot of confidence with the car.
The Toyos used to squirm initially but then gave bucketloads of grip and very difficult to provoke understeer exiting corners (used to try just for fun ).
I'm hoping the poor performance of the F1's just may be due to the geometry of the car not suiting 17 inches or the fact that they have bedded in differently on the previous car they were fitted to.
Anyway - I'm going back to Toyos for my next set of rubber.
Disapointed

Meant to add that my opinions are clearly only based on standard 16" as that's all I have had experience of
Alot of people on here who are running 17's and 18's actually feel that Bridgestone SO3's are the business
I liked the Toyos but breakaway just happened far too soon in comparison the Goodyears. I would get your geometry checked as I can't see how you are finding the Toyos outperforming the F1's
Cheers
