Tyre Choice ?

I have my99 turbo 4 door with 18" prodrive wheels, I have been told that i can only fit 215/35 tyres is this true ? could i fit 225/40 or 225/45 i find the 215/35 a little to small .Would TOYO T1s tyres be up to scratch ?
