disks - drilled, grooved, either, both???

Whats the best combination for heavy road use? I'm unlikely to do much track day use, so which would be the best combination? I prefer the look of just plain or grooved disks, what are the merits of getting drilled and grooved exactly?

Get grooved only, I have drilled and grooved, I like to use the brakes, hence my discs are covered with little cracks all over, Grooves clean the pads, the drillings just look good!

I fitted Diamond grooved discs to a previous Mondeo (don't laugh it was a V6), they were better than the standard, but very noisy!
They made a grinding noise whenever used, so I am wary of grooved discs for that reason.
Anyone else get noise with grooved discs?

Mine are the 325mm Godspeed ones. I took advice from Ian, and since I don't do track days, have drilled and grooved, and no probs so far.
The only noise I get since I used the bits Ian gave me to cure rattly pads, and squeaky pads, is a sort of pattering noise from the grooves, certainly not invasive.
