Are sport and sti discs the same?
#1
Hi all
I know it's late but I can't sleep
My sister owns an MY96 sport and has warped front discs on it. Are MY98 sti discs the same? they are 292mm dia if that means anything? I need to sort her out with new discs soon and I have found a set of these.
Thanks in advance
Paul

No probably not. I assume it'll be the same as my 97 Sport which had 1 pot front brakes and 260mm discs. You can probably upgradde them to 2nd hand 2 pots for the same price as a new set of discs. That's what I did.

How hard/Is it possible to reuse the old front discs/pad/caliper on the rears to replce the drums? (MY98 Sport wagon.)

Lo Nexuas - mods already?
Definately - oem sport brakes are carp
Most likely - early turbos only had 15" wheels etc, so I'd be really surprised if they didn't fit. 4 pots are more trouble, in that they fit most 16" wheels, but not the best ever classic impreza wheel (speedline chronos/superturismos) - even in 17"
Seriously - don't even bother - most of the back drivetrain needs fiddling with (v. different between sport/turbo).
2pots good, 4pots better (but inevitable wheel change requirements).
Is it worth it?
Will the standard sport wheels clear these?

Am looking and planing ahead, have got to finish paying for it first.
And then all over time pay can go on the car.
Need to do
ICE
Wheel alignment
Clear indicators etc
Would like to do
Eibachs
brakes
air filter
exhaust
and possible chip?

Hi,
I was thinking of trying the rear drum to disc conversion on my MY97 Sport wagon, but was advised not to....big job for little gain (Subaru did fit discs to the rear of older Sports but found they seized due to underuse!). Anyway, I've upgraded to 16" Turbo wheels and am thinking of the 4 pot conversion, so is it poss. to fit Std(OEM) Turbo 4 pots to my Sport or not?
Eibachs are a good idea too.....for what you'd spend trying to increase the BHP (which would be big bucks for a small increase) you'd be much better off sorting the handling and braking. These areas can compensate hugely to the performance of a Sport and come to track days you might even surprise a few Turbos (maybe not beat them but certainly get a few puzzled looks!)
