will they fit or am i to get a free rub?(make a nice change)

just bought some 18" p1 oz in anthracite to go on my 97 uk (yummy). they came off a 2000 model (thats the year) and are 225/40/18's. as always i got all excited and bought them without considering fit, but are they gonna go? i assume theyll fit stud pattern wise, but are they gonna rub more than barbed wire trousers? anyone got any experience of this (the wheels not the trousers)? ive done a search and theres loads of differing views so does it vary from MY to MY?
c'mon gang, say my find aint too good to be true..

Apparently it depends on your suspension! Ive got a MY95 and told they will not fit - they will rub. But ive got P1 suspension so they are fine. Had people in the car and they dont rub.
Might as well put it on your car and if you dont like it, you can sell the tyres and buy 215/35s

good thinking!!
they didnae come off a p1, they came off a turbo. my suspension is, as yet, unfettled...so theory says they should go. i guess its just a case of suck em and see (not literally of course) but i was really hoping somebody would say something soothing so i can go back to grinning like a fool, rather than alternatley murmmering the words "sounds expensive"...
anyone got anything positive, and if necessary, a total lie?
thanks all,

Fitted 18's off a P1 on MY95 with 225x35x18 tyres, very slight rubbing on the suspension tower in the rear wheel arches, fitted a 3mm spacer and no problems, even on bumpy roads or with passengers

hi,
thanks for that vinnie. several people have suggested spacers but what i dont understand is how fitting a spacer to a tyre that might be too wide (fingers and toes crossed all weekend) will help? i know that sounds dumb, but wont spacing the wheel move it closer to the arch im in danger of rubbing on? also wont this make the bolts dangerously too short? it must work so im happy to try it though. where did you get the spacers from?
thanks again bud,

ok theyre on, and theyr only rub a bit under fairly hard cornering. when i took my 17"s off there was already a 5mm spacer on so ive left that in place, and thus far no rub from the rears (though looking at the edges of the tyres, the bloke who i purchased them from had a bit of a rub problem himself, theres a tramline round the outside!). so my question is this.. how can i overcome the rub from the fronts? its hard to tell whether theyre rubbing on the in or the outside, and they look too close to the wing to try a spacer (am happy to be wrong as always tho).. what can i do? apart from buying a new set of tyres already of course (these are nearly new, and not in the arfur daley way).
thanks all,
