Best locking wheel nut in the whole wide world????
#1
I've got a nice set of 17" Oz alloys on my subaru, but I've got a Toad alarm so not the best alarm in the world, my missus parks her car very close to mine in the car park and hers was broken in to last week, about 1k's worth of damage
I'm worried the local by racers will nick them and try and fit them to their 4 stud cars.
To get to the point which locking wheels nuts will give the scum the most ammount of work to deal with?

If I was you I would buy two sets and fit them (have done this on my car) as they are so easy to remove when only one set is fitted. Obviously I'm not going to explain how to do it, but have seen it demonstrated and it's shocking. You can remove them with your hands

I have got genuine subaru ones on mine. The quality is great and they dont look like any others i have seen,so the chances of another key fitting is pretty slim. One thing i have found though, the harder you make it for the thieving s**** to remove, the more damage they will cause trying!!! They may not get the wheels, but destroy them trying! And give the car a pasting too, just to vent thier anger of failing! Just an observation, but having worked in the car recovery trade for 7 years,i have noticed this trend mant times. Hope this helps

WheelBase sorted £35 all in.
You've got to try and delay them, no point giving up, the longer it takes them the more chance they will be disturbed (I hope).
They are not the most discreet car to own, I've just got my insurance renewal through £1100 protected N-Claims, clean license, I'm 26 and all mods have been declared (about 7 of them), not too bad.

Yes you can remove the locking wheel nut with your fingers, if you follow the correct procedure!! Shocking but true. It's much harder removing them with two locking wheel nuts on!!

I also had the removal technique "passed on" by a local ex-tealeaf.
However his technique worked on any number of nuts, and any kind of key or lock mechanism, and yes you can then undo them with your fingers and no damage to the wheels if you are accurate.
I needed it because I bought a secondhand VW with locking nuts and no key. The local dealer was no help, he suggested cutting the wheels off!!!!
Went to my local in-car dealer friend. We tried air chisels to knock them around, clamps, grips, welding on bars, etc, etc. I even loosened all the other nuts and drove around the block. No luck.
He went next door to the local garage, reformed character mechanic told him technique. We tried it, 10 seconds later the nuts were off!
So if they want them they'll get them.

deanoM,
Didn't meen to put you off, the locking nuts will still stop most casual thieves, so worth having.
It was quite a shock though to see how easy it could be.
Some alarms detect movement of the car, so this would detect the car being jacked up, may be worth considering.
Also the technique may not work on all designs of nut, I only tried it on the VW ones, which had a sort of male-female, key-nut pattern as the lock mechanism.
