Unhappy

Had Pagid Group N+ brake kit fitted all round 3 weeks ago by ScoobySport and they are already rusting!

I thought the Pagid stuff was supposed to be more rust resistant!?!

Nope I've not used anything to "clean" the wheels that has caused this as I've not cleaned the car since I've had them fitted!

I've sent a mail to ScoobySport, but alas no reply as yet.

Very disappointed.

Performance is good though!

Hub part rusting on mine too,the coating/treatment ,as i understand it, won't stop them rusting at all but will stop the savage rusting that discs tend to be susceptable(sp) to,the friction area will rust lightly when stopped for only a few hours and this is normal.

By rusting I meant the hub, not the friction area.

I've had a response back from ScoobySport and they said ...

"Yes they will. They are what is known as "grey cast" iron which has a very coarse crystalline structure. The downside of grey cast is that it does rust.

You can stop it by painting them with Hammerite, but don't get it on the friction surfaces."

So, that's the answer, either put up with the horrible rust or paint them... latter I reckon!

This is the reason we have our discs plated , where the pads sit the plating comes off straight away , but it stays on the rest of the disc to stop them going rusty .

Mmm, hind sight is always a good thing huh! Oh well, I'll paint these ones myself possibly (not that I'm that mechanically minded!) unless someone wants to do them for me?!?

Next discs I'll be more aware.

Thanks for your input folks.

It's hardly a problem is it?

Edited to clarify - talking about the rust not the painting.

although it can look poor, this shows the difference between a high quality friction material disc and a poor one which may stay nice and shiny but will be inferior in terms of both stopping ability and heat transfer!!
