Question

Ok Question 4 you guys. Seen loads on here about Toyo Tyres. Honest opinion please on them . looking for 205 etc for leggy. My local dealer says Toyo are budget tyres. Always used Michelin up to now ,but ive been told Toyos come out of same factory as pirelli except naturally branded different.

SO ARE THEY ANY GOOD ??

Cheers in advance

Ive got Toyos on mine and i like them. I think quite a few people on here have Toyos and have no problems with them.

They either go for Toyos or Goodyears

They are fitted as OEM to the TVR Tuscan S so somebody thnks they are good for 190 mph and 4 sec 0-60 through the rear wheels!

The main point about them (on the scoob) is that they are very correctable and give really gradual breakaway meaning that if you are a rude boy or wannabe racer you are less likey to have a crash when pushing near the limits of grip and can get away with making steering corrections round a bend if you cannot drive a perfect line at first turn of the wheel. Ultimate grip is not necessarily the best but they are good in the wet. Also no tramlining

I would say not a budget tyre, but a value tyre. You get a lot for the money

Thanks for that. No tramlining eh. that WOULD be a bonus.

Ive been running TOYOS for about 2 weeks now, and after running Periellis and a Periellie avon mix I can honestly say they are so much better than the Perellies I had before, tere is not tramlining, its much more Positive feel to the steering and the grip is a lot better both dry and wet.

They are not a budget brand Just Good value for money if you ask me.

I think Toyo are cheaper just because there's less brand name image. I've done >10,000 reasonably hard miles on mine now and they're still better than my Bridgestones ever were.

Tyre places usually say Toyos are budget tyres because they tend to sell loads of the cheaper ranges, not necessarily the TS-1, which is the one you're looking at ?

I've got them on my car, on 17" OZs, and they're fine, give a fair bit of warning before breakaway; certainly better than OEM, once worn in.

On 16's I find that they are very progressive and relatively predictable but levels of 'out and out wet grip' are a bit questionable

Hence the new set of Goodyears being fitted tomorrow

You must not compare toyo proxes t1-s to other toyo tyres, I have t1-s's on thepug gti for the last 2 years and have rated them. I put Toyo 330's on a escort I was running until I got my scooby, and they were awful truly awful. So the tyre delaer has probably experienced some of the budget tyres in Toyo's range and is judging the proxes t1-s the same.

Price wise I would recomend checking youre local dealer on www.toyo.co.uk as there was a price difference of £20 per tyre between the Toyo stockist and my normal tyre place that "could get them if I wanted them".

Had Pirelli P Zero Rossos original fitment on my UK300. 225/40 ZR18's. Then bought a second set of wheels with Proxies fitted. Chalk and cheese. The proxies are much grippier tyre but softer walled as well so they give a lot more, not as precise as the P0's. The opportunity to swap wheels and make an instant comparison was good.
To be honest I like both tyres but Toyos are better in my mind - they need less warming up and I am a little more daring (madder ******* - hence the nic?) and I feel more confident with the Proxies but the precision of the P0s is great, they slide predictably and can be balanced on the throttle easier than Proxies.
It does show up the deficiencies in my UK300's suspension, that is for certain. Springs need beefing up a lot.
Have ordered a set of GY F1 GSD3's today to replace P0's, so will post another comparison when I eventually get em fitted.
The Toyo thing at dealers makes me laugh, I think it is because they have never come across performance tyres from them before and just associate the name Toyo alone as being budget. btw - Metzeler own Pirelli. Pirelli and Metz bike tyres are manufactured in the same factory. (Their German PR guy told me).
Hope my 2 penneth helps?
