Question

I have a series mcrae with 16" speedline safari's, and am thinking on changing my brakes to 4 pots off a newer impreza. Would these fit as I have heard they dont under speedline wheels?

Pretty sure they won't fit, get along to a local meet and ask someone friendly with 4 pots if you can try a wheel on their car, that way you'll know for sure!

Unfortunately they don't fit. Caliper meets the inside of the spoke.
The Series Mcrae wheels were 6.5x16, not 7x16 like the later cars fitted with 4 pots as standard.

Yep.... they definately do not fit. But this is due to the offset of the wheel and spoke design, NOT the width. Early cars had 55mm offset where as the later wheels from Subaru, Prodrive etc where about 52mm. Some even run ET48mm.

When selecting a new wheel look at the offset and the design of the wheel. Try to get confirmation they will fit before you part with your hard earned

Would spacers be a good idea? Or are they not a good plan, Ive heard people say they wouldnt have them and would just buy bigger wheels, does anybody know why this is? Thanks,
Roy.

Spacers! the answer is nooooooooooooooo!
With spacers you basically have less bolt though the wheel meaning more stress on it, and in the (un)likelyhood of them snapping.....
You need to speak to someone like Pete Croney at Scoobysport and see what your options are.

If this is of help I know that the willwood 4 pots fit under the wheels as I had these wheels on my last impreza and my mate borrowed them for a while and they fitted like a glove over the willwoods.
