Unhappy

Mmmmm - well took my wheels off today to find that when I last put the front left wheel on that the lock nut had crossthreaded the stud....and it gets worse....I then used it on a different stud by mistake and now have two cross-threaded studs. One is usable but one is completely buggered.

How do I resolve this - any help appreciated.

To be honest, the only way would be to replace the 2 damaged studs.
It's no use running a die nut down them, as there would'nt be much metal left, and the nuts would probably strip threads anyway.

Good luck,

Dremel.

Cool

Dremel,

I guessed I would have to replace them - is this straightforward?

Just never heard of it being done.

Cheers,

Trout,

I've stripped the threads before as well , fairly straight foward job , but it will require alot of brute force .

All you have to do is hit the stud with a hammer, i think i used a metal rod the same size as the stud.
when you put the new stud in from behind you might have to take the back plate off but i manage to spin the wheel hub in the exact place then give it a whack , just make sure you line up the splein thread on the stud.

You dont have hit the stud all the home, when you put the wheel back on this should pull the stud in.

hope that made sum sense,

nick.
