I have a MY01 WRX and i need 2 new front tyres soon-the potenza's have lasted 12,000 miles so far -what should i replace em with that r cheaper-last longer and better and where to get em from

Don't just replace the fronts unless you want to drive very carefully until the backs are also gone. You need to keep all 4 tyres the same. Otherwise you will wind up picking your car out of a hedge - I know - I cahnged my fronts on my last MY00 and did just that. V. fortunately virtualy no damge fo me - got very lucky.
Be warned!
I have Toyo Proxes TIS on my Sti @ the moment. Generally the varied opinions seem to favour Goodyear F1>= Toyo Proxes with the Bridgestone S03 finding good favour in the hands of some.

I like the S03, gave good performance, Have bought a set of Goodyears (good write up's on here) probebly fit them in a couple weeks just a smidgen of legal tread left. I rotate my tyres front to back to keep wear even. I don't like the idea of throwing away tyres with plenty of tread just because the fronts are knackered. Although worn rears with new run in fronts will cause overstear on the limit especially in the wet.

Need to change mine soon too, have a new set of P Zero's on my MY98 Sport on 205,55,16's, would they suit the MY02 WRX, 215,45,17's?
I like the fact that they are slightly less sensitive, ie, they are less nervous than my standard Bridgestones and give loads more grip!
Anyone else like the P Zero's here?
:-)

Mike,
Sorry, but I didn't like the Pirelli's. I must admit, they were very good in the dry. Just as good as the Goodyears or Toyo's I've tried.
The problem I found was their wet weather handling. Far to much sliding around on very little rain and even at relatively slow speeds.
Since it never stops raining up here in Scotland, I'll not be going back to them. They're also loads more expensive than a set of Goodyears or Toyo's.

Thanks Stefan! I'll try the F1's as my rears are on 2mm and fronts on 5 (after swapping them a few weeks ago).
Is it safe mixing the 2 brands or do I have to change all 4 for best handling? BTW, the 2mm is on the inside quarter due to possible geometry probs :-(
Cheers!

Mike,
It's a BIG no-no in the Scooby community to NOT change all 4 tyres at once
Before my Scoob, I just changed tyres when they needed changing. Whether it was one, two, .... whatever. I never ever spun or landed in a hedge.
If you mix brands or tread depths, then it's going to upset the balance of the car, but only when your driving near the limit. If you're just driving normally, you'll not notice the difference.
I've always changed all 4 at the same time, so don't have any real-life experience.
As long as the same tyres are across the same axle, the car will be fine. I guess it depends if you want to continue drive like a demon and get caught out or just keep reminding yourself that the fronts are less grippy and drive around them.
With 5mm tread on the fronts, I'd just get two of the same tyres for the rear. Are you running P-Zero's or F1's on the front? Try sticking with the same tyres for the rear.

Thanks Stefan!
I'd like to change all 4 but it may not be possible without living on beans for a month :-) Looks like I may have to as the tyres are the 'orid standard fit Bridgestones.
When I changed our Sport from them to 4 new P Zero's recently the handling had a massive improvement but I'll take everyone's word for it and try and get F1's!
Cheers!
