Unhappy

Just had my car serviced today and was told by the garage that the tyres on my car arent standard tyres the car should have come with(P1). I bought the car brand new and it has VENTUS K102 tyres 215/45/ZR17, i have never heard of these before.

They are very poor tyres, and in the wet i might as well have a bin lid in each corner, understeer everywhere.

have just done a check and the prices for these Ventus things are about £30 cheaper than any "decent" tyres, have i been stitched up? These tyres really really are pants, id say dangerous.

You've been stitched up, mate. Get some Goodyear F1 or Toyo T1-S in 215/40x17 and prepare to be amazed

Unless you bought the car new then you haven't been stiched up.... I'd get those replaced asap, if you scrimp on tyres you may as well just drive a Nova. It's not worth it and in many ways the tyres can make or break a car.

Not only are they not the correct tyres, they are also the incorrect profile.

Bloody hell.... which dealer did you get it from? And as Russell says the profile is wrong too . I'd get back there and get them to put the correct tyres on (although my Pzeros are lacking in wet weather grip..... uuuuuuunnnnnnnnnddddersteer!!!).

Take it up with the dealer and IM for sure - shocking service like that needs sorting and I think IM will be having stern words with someone, but if all they offer is a set of P-Zeros, for the sake of £400 I'd get some really good rubber.

I havent called the dealer concerned yet cause i had work commitments today. I was also told at my service that the insides of the tyres had worn away and i was bordering on illegal tyres. Was also told to get a geomerty set up,i have seen on another thread that these cost £100! I dont want to pay for this set up as i feel its a warranty issue. Should i go for compensation for the tyres and a free geometry check for the dealer concerned? (Aird motors Scotland)?

Whats the difference between the 215 types and the 205s i should have on there, i assume mine are wider than the standard, and will this have affected the geometry settings?

The tyre size shouldn't have affected the geometry. I'd also say that you'd have no joy getting the geometry done under warranty. The geomemtry can be fine when it leaves the production line/dealer but can go out slightly due to our ****ty roads, pot holes etc. Also it's not worth have the geometry reset to the original spec, best to go for 'prodrive' settings. This gives the front a bit more bit and gets rid of some of the nasty understeer.

Good luck with it anyway,

Tony.

ok, im going to change these tyres anyway. Im after the f1 eagles, now should i get 215 or 205 size, for a standard P1 17 wheel?

And regarding the geometry test, i assume subaru will carry this out at a great expense, does anyone know where i can get this done local to Luton by a garage thats any good?

The size you need on the standard P1 alloys for Goodyear F1's is 215/40-17

The P1 came with Pzero's which were 205/45-17 but you cannot get this sized tire in F1's.

The first size is fine on the alloys you have.

I did buy the car brand new, ive had it 18 months now. This is really bugging me now, I suppose ill have to look into this further and take it up wih subaru, why would a dealer take off the normal tyres and put these things on? Ive always had Goodyear Eagles on both my other imprezas, IMHO its the best tyre around, really puts this make to shame
