Hi,
I recently got my brake pads changed, Got mintex c-tech type 1144 and i am now getting a REALLY LOUD squeeling, and this is when the brakes are NOT applied. I'm not joking about how loud it is, it's enough to hurt your ears! worse than someone scraping a knife across a blackboard.
had anyone got any ideas on what it is and how to stop it before my eardrums burst as well as other people and i start getting sued for extreme noise polution!
my car is a 96 turbo with the OEM 2 pot calipers!

Mine did this, Had to strip the sliders down completly and clean them out.
The temp of the brakes and the ingress of cack siezes them up.
Clean them and regrease.
Also put copperslip between the pads and shim and between the shim and piston.
Hope this helps it cured mine
Failing that get 4 pots
Cheers

Alot of us just replaced our brakes with Godspeeds on the group buy and those that opted for M1144s all get squeal at low braking pressures. Im going to investigate the possibility of Anti Squeal shims but dont know if it will do any good.
Basically its a (negative) property of the pad and as someone else recently said, the only reliable way to stop it is to buy a different pad!
On the plus side, they dont seem to fade when ur pressing on.........

As said before, get plenty of copper grease on the backs of the pads and the shims. Also rub the fronts of the pads with some emery paper to clean them and clean everything with brake cleaner.

Trucker and tonka, I know thats all good general advice for squealy brakes, but have you got C-Tech 1144s, cos Ive got brand new brakes and copper slip on the back etc, but these pads still squeal.....

Im using M-1155's with Black diamond cross drilled discs, not too expensive ,on my 3rd set with no problems what so ever.If the brakes are all fitted up correctly and the calipers are moving freely then all you can really do is try another compound.

Nice! Ive got the 325mm Godspeed 4 pot kit and am thinking about 1155s. What sort of bite have they got from stone cold? I notice Mintex have a note saying "not for road applications" on their website. LOL!
Ive yet to get this setup on a track but the temperature profile of the 55s looks good for another 100K or so over the 44s, so if I fade the 44s, thats the direction I'll be heading. Be nice if they didnt screech at me n all!

The 1155's are fine for every day driving, and will lock the wheels up even when cold,so no problems with an early morning emergency stop if the situation arose. They come into their own when driving on the fast side of enthusiastic with very little fade. It's a good wearing quality pad and i can honestly say i have never had them squeal once.P.S (I'm not connected with Mintex although this sounds like an advert)
