Nail in sidewall
#1
Just checking my tyres and found a nail in the sidewall on one of the rears! They both have 7mm of tread left. Is it OK to replace just one side or should botrh be done?
Anyone know what pressure to put in the space saver?
Julian.

7mm is virtually new so replacing just the one aint no problem, you can possably drive to the garage with the nail in the sidewall but i wouldnt go flying down any country lanes and make sure you bed your new tyre in (as some tyres are a little greasy to start with)

Well, I've got new one on now.
Just how significant can 1mm be? Obviously it's going to be less that ideal, but can it cause that much of a problem to the rear diff? What about the difference in wear betwen fronts to rears? This is already 1mm different at 6mm on the fronts and 7mm on both the rears (before the nail!)
Anyway, it feels better to be back on the normal amount of tyre after running on the 700c tub fitted to the space saver - It's scary at 50mph on a motorway I can tell you!
