After reading a post on the steering characteristics of the MY02 STi ( i.e Tramlining ) and hearing how it could be allignment problems I took a closer look at the tires of my car and noticed "feathering" of the tread on the outside of both frount tires, so I took the car to have the allignment checked.
I was told that the allignment was good and that the problem was common with the RE040's. he also pointed out that the side wall of one tyre was starting to crack ( about 4-5cm long, a few mm deep and looks identical to the tread starting to lift ) He warned me not to drive faster than 200kmh, which is great as I am off to Germany on the weekend. I also wonder if 190 Kmh is going to be safe ?? I doubt it....
I took the car to my Subi garage and showed them and they said it was due to excessive cornering speeds and they havent had any probs with the RE 40's ( sounds typical for a dealer ).
I live in Switzerland and have taken a few trips over the Susten and Furka passes ( with lots of corners ) but have never pushed the tyres beyond their traction limits, the 300+ meter drops on the sides of the roads makes you a little cautious!
I have a couple of questions if anyone can help.
has anyone had this problem as well with the Potenza's ?
Does anyone know of a garage in Switzerland or Sth Germany who specialises in wheel allignments for Subaru's as my German wasnt up to the task of finding out if he knew about Subaru AWD allignment?
and Should this be covered under warranty as the car has only done 6000 miles?
Thanks guys and gals
PS- just how dangerous could this be??
