Question

My '91 Eunos Roadster has got a disintegrating cat in the exhaust. At first it was really rattling but is now getting quieter presumably as the cat disintegrates. As the car is an import pre '92 car I can get away without a cat at MOT time and can therefore replace the cat with a decat section costing £54!!! However there's no point in replacing it if I don't need to so my question is will the cat just disintegrate completely without doing any harm?

I once had a Volvo 440 in at work which had blown the whole inards of it's cat out, that was ok, likewise with my festa I just broke the actual cat bit out and left the box bit in place, it runs fine but just sounds a bit odd, almost like a.... vauxhaul

A guy at works cat broke down and managed to block his exhaust further up the system which made his car not run as it had stranged the exhaust.

I hear that some people deliberately smash them out as a cheap alternative to buying a decat pipe
