Default Best tyres for a 98 classic?

Mine, running around 420 from a forged 2.5, has, since it had it's first new tyres, always run on 17's with Toyo Proxes T1S or T1R in 215/40 x17.
Wheels are standard WRX from an 03 car.

Car's been SORN'd since, 2018, currently being resprayed etc.

So, the current tyres have 5-6 mm tread, but haven't been in use for some time.

Tyres move on... what's the current thinking?

Remember: this is a 98 classic, 17's and coilovers.
It's NOT the same beast as later cars.
TIA.

Hi,

I'm running the STi wheels of about the same era so 225/45/17 and have Michelin Pilot Sport 4's and they are a superb all rounder.
Was thinking to try the nankang NS-2R next time as i don't need an all round ability tyre and the firmer sidewalls could bring an improvement.

Why don't you think you need an all rounder?
Track days only?
