The 35's will be much harder on the drive.
I have tried them and had to do back to 40's.

I noticed I was accelerating quicker with the 40's and stopping better and was told (by prodrive)that the slightly higher profile allows more flex ond the footprint to get wider on load therefore better hanling. There is apparently no reason for anyone to go to 35 on a scooby other than using 19's and thats ridiculous any way.

Theory only, not from personal experience on a Scoob.

The 35 profile will have a smaller rolling diameter than the 40. This will increase acceleration marginally as it will reduce the gearing marginally. The 35 profile will mean that the speedo marginally misreads.

The 35 profile will, for a given tyre design, have better control of the sidewall giving slightly better initial turn in and communication through the steering than the 40. However, this also result in an increase in the harshness of the ride and increase the risk of buckling a wheel on the marvellous roads we have in Blairs' Britain.

However, theory is bunk! The only way to really tell is to drive both and see which you prefer.

I much prefer 35 over 40 profile. I've had both in 225/18. Handling in mucg improved with the 35 compared to the 40... comfort is worse off course..

The difference is as follows (using 40 profile as original and 35 profile as replacement)

-22.5mm diameter
which is -3.53%

at 30 mph on the clock you are doing 28.94mph
at 50 mph on the clock you are doing 48.23mph
at 70 mph on the clock you are doing 67.53mph

Goodyear Eagle F1's are £117.99 for 225/40/18
Goodyear Eagle F1's are £159.40 for 225/40/18

I can supply anyone goodyear eagles F1 in 225/40zr18
for £125 fully fitted.
The only difference is in the rolling radius of the tyre, being a 35 profile the car is going to be sat a little bit closer to the ground, the car might exellerate faster as the wheel isnt travelling as far to do a full circle. But you willsacrifice the comfort, the less tyre in the side wall the harder the ride so you find the car wind handle differently and much firmer.
Price wise the 35 section tyre is much more expensive than the 40.
it works like this, the profile figure is the percentasge of the width of the tyre.So 225/35zr18,35 percent of the tyres width is the height of the side wall,40 is 40%,so on.

Als the vagaries in acceleration won't really matter that much. It can all be trown out of kilt due to tyre tread/wear, temperature (of the road surface and tyre) and the iar pressure withing the tyre.
