Default Brakes for track day's

Hi All

We run a GC8 310 bhp on track at Lydden Predominantly to promote our engine oil etc.

We have a small issue :-)

We run standard 4 pots on the front and 2 pots on the rear.

Our car eats discs!

We have tried standard, we have tried grooved, we have tried drilled and grooved. All crack after 4 x 15 minute sessions!

(Plus we do a set of tyres a day!)

The car currently has Simon Roe's (RIP) old brake set up on the front from the JGM.

pads lasted. Discs didn't.

It appears its the heat soak after the cool down lap and the car being parked up (between pads and disc).

Godspeed say the discs are too thin to cope. Get their kit. I spoke to someone who has removed their kit (AM Pads) as the braking was poor!
So don't know what to do there.

So, my question, has anyone had any luck with front discs and pads on a track used car? It's getting expensive having to change every session! If so, can you recommend any?

I am going to run vents to the rear of the brakes to see if that helps

Cheers

Ray

Had the same issue with my GC8, the standard brakes are no good on the track and small upgrades improve the situation but don't solve it.

I'm now on ksports and i'm very happy with them, the stopping power is fabulous and they keep performing well throughout the whole track session.

I think bigger brakes is poss the option.

I didn't want to go into big money spends as we are in the process of building another track car (classic) with a WR1 engine and Hawk running gear. So budget will be in that.

The 2 pot rears work very well. as opposed to standard rears.

4 pots also stop incredibly well but the discs just fracture :-)

Best bang for buck would probably be sti brembos up front.

Probably need a new set of wheels too though.

HI
Just to add you mentioned our 335mm kit to me , not the other way round , but still its a very capable kit with the right pads to suit the use , with the right pads in it will be night and day different to your current setup , and you will not be cracking discs as you are now as the 335mm kit discs are 32mm thick.
If you fitted one of these kits with DS3000 pads , which we said we could offer you in the kit price , it would be a very capable set up.

You did mention you were looking to keep the Subaru 4 pots , and I said this is the best set up you can fit with them , but it would be only worth doing if the calipers are working properly , if the calipers are sticky then it would be worth looking at other setups.

Which is why I then told you about the brand new K sport 330mm kit we have here which you can have for £750 , this kit has our own discs and bells .

Then if money is no problem , one of the AP 6 pot calipers kits we are offering at the moment for £1250 , these can be supplied with various pads to suit and would be more than enough to cope with the amount of track days you say your car does.

Cheers Ian

Yes he would need new wheels as he's using 2001 onwards WRX wheels , so buying new wheels then doesn't make the kit best bang for buck.

I've done a couple of track days in my V4 Type R, standard set up and decided to uprate my front discs & pads so opted for these front discs;

https://www.scoobynet.com/trader-ann...g-savings.html

I tried to purchase the Performance Friction pads but was told thet only make them for 4 pot Brembo's so decide on Carbon Lorraine 5+ pads.

I am very impressed with them & not had any issues.

whoever you spoke to obviously has little to do with PFC or knowledge of their product line...........

PFC do various track/competition options for both the Brembo equipped and Subaru branded calipers and as one of the largest UK PFC distributors we seem to manage to stock these without issue

As above , PF don't make the Z rated pads for the Subaru 4 pots , but the track / race pads are available in that shape
