After the Millau trip, and the Scotland trip, and the IoM trip, and the first Stelvio trip which is still in its planning stage (I think)

Yup. We've been talking about WYIOC road trips for some time.. Unfortunately for one reason or another, they don't seem to come off...
I would LOVE to do this.... just need like minded people with the time to do 1,000 miles there..... 5 tanks. 1,000 mile back... 5 tanks.
All in all £500 on fuel and another few hundred on ferries, beer, food and camping...
Anyone with a spare £800 up for going?
I would.....
PS.. the SMACS lads have done this a few times.... they'd be best placed to let us know the total costs...

I'd love to, but my hols are sorted for the next few years as a mate has just bought a pad in rural France. Remember where Stelvio is, and that the time of year will be very important. Mountains usually have extreme weather. If people could twist families arms then a full Euro road-trip taking in Le-Mans, Reims, Millau, Stelvio and the Alps, the Autobahns and The Ring would make for a brilliant two week jaunt.

I recommend everyone has a look at it on Flash Earth . Search for Stelvio and switch on 'Microsoft VE Labels' to follow the SS38

Probably the best time to inject some reality....
The man is a master at organsing some great doo's, but contrary to the normal club rules of 'you mention you arrange' and with the possibility of peeing on the enthusiastic bonfire we'll have, I feel if this is to go ahead, then it should be a shared adventure with everyone wishing to go involved in the planning, organising & execution..... with a few proper Squires meets to get it all together...
We should also ask for money up front to secure places as, once the expense, time off required and what's involved dawns, people have a tendency to drop at the last minute.
When we planned the IOM trip, it quickly ended up with just me, DC and Si and it all quickly ground to a halt due to lack of numbers... all this was after DC had spent a lot of time getting the prices for ferries and even arranging a meet with some fellow owners on the Island...
Sorry if it's dampened a few aspirations but a trip like this shouldn't be taken lightly.... and if it is done, it should be done with the usual WYIOC un-thoroughness, lateness and 'suck and see' approach!!

Thanks mate.. I was a bit concerned that i'd come across a little 'old git', but that's a fantastic idea about the savings club. This would make it much more affordable for those thinking twice due to the one off cost... as it'll be spread over the next few months.

It,s a great idea.
Like Al says, get a date chosen, stick with it.
Loads of time to sort time of work, passports, finances etc.
Sure Mick would love it either as a driver or passenger

Okay. Passport is being sorted, and I've kinda had the green light from the boss (ish. little more persuasion may be required )
We need to have a preliminary meeting for all those interested, sort out potential dates, routes and estimated costs.
TP on Thursday night?

This is one of the issues to be addressed. In all probability I'll be taking Jade with me, so it would have to fall on a school holiday week. I was thinking Easter or thereabouts.
Obviously there are other things to consider, such as the majority opinion, weather in the suggested locales, etc.
