End of Month Meet 22nd Feb - Squires @7:30 - Perking JB up...
Now, there's no disputing we all love our cars. There's no disputing that we (WYIOC) enjoy life to its fullest by taking part in some spectacular drives, events and Doos and we all take every opportunity to drive the cars as they are meant to be driven, whether as a group or as individuals going about our daily lives.
JB is one such person who enjoys life and drives hard at every opportunity. Take Sunday night as an example leaving Squires after the Top Gear meet. He'd left a few minutes before, but waited for me to close behind him at the gate before he booted the car left up the hill. With the tail sideways and back wheels spinning, it was a fantastic sight and one that put a smile on my face on the way home and it epitomised all we're about.
Now. That sort of petrol head pleasure, lust for life and the pure enjoyment of driving in that style takes it's toll.
I can speak from experience of the toll it takes as I disappeared from James's rear view and spiralled in front of Simon. How many other people can I count that have had some sort of breakage, 'moment' or incident in the club?? Quite a few. Simon's video from Blyton shows the passion, commitment and love of driving his car.
I've heard a little criticism at the amount of times we as a club have had such issues, but what I'd like to say is this...
Go to the first few lines and read them again.
We own our cars because we love to drive them. I'm not talking about getting in, starting the car and driving to work, I'm talking about driving them. Using the performance.
If you do drive and push into that performance envelope, then I suggest you're going to break something at some point. This may be going above what the car can stand in it's current trim, or beyond your ability.
But even if you drive them well, with skill, care and without recklessness then at some time you'll experience a 'moment'. If you haven't, then I suggest you've either been very lucky or haven't pushed the envelope. I'd also suggest you've got some adrenalin left and learning still to do.
JB has done both of those. But JB wouldn't be JB if he hadn't. Like Wayne Rooney, his nature makes him stand out and we wouldn't want to change that. In fact this passion will make him a great ambassador for the community. Full of life, zeal and driving a Fiesta every now and again as his Tofu Mobile gets ready for the road again...
Finally, that standing start drift was probably the death knell for his driveshaft. So what if it was? I can't see JB driving Miss Daisy any time soon and I'm sure we've not seen the end of his car in the garage for a new clutch, drive shaft, brakes or tyres. Maybe the odd body panel.
I could use that statement for me too and I'm with James on this, I wouldn't want it any other way.
So...
If you want to come and enjoy the banter, passion, life and love of driving that is the WYIOC.. Then come down to the EOM. Better still... come along to any of the planned events....

Ooooh. All sombre and serious. No laughs this month.
If you can't wait till the end of the month get on Messenger on an evening. 6 of us on there last night, and with Mick on top form (as usual) the 'PMSL' button got some hammer
Beats watching Emmeroids & Constipation Street

Know exactly what you are saying Alan - people at work despair at the costs of my car and are forever shouting 'get rid' this year i have gone through....1 engine - well bottom end, needed a gearbox rebuild, melted my brakes braking from *** to 30 mph in one hit, split my up pipe clean in two. wrecked two tyres smashing into a kerb, and now it seems my clutch is giving up.
My car in mods and repairs = 5 grand but do i care, like f*** i do
bring it on - i love it

Thanks Chef... at least you appreciate the passion, commitment and bloody minded nature you need...
That's what I was trying to get across. At the end of the day.. living costs.. living with a passion costs more..

There is this guy at work - tight as a ducks f**king **** - i swear if you stuck a lump of coal up his **** in a week you'd have a diamond!!!!
anyway - he moans like buggery about running his 1.8 Mondeo, moan moan moan yet he lives in a 400k house, his whole life revolves around going from one event to the other in military precisicion.
Got married (fair enough) then had a kid then the big house then the extension, goes through life affording this huge house and scrimping and saving and moaning and going to spain every year only because the mother in law has an apartment out there and costs them nowt.
always on at me to sell the car and i must be stupid running it - well maybe i am but when i jump in it and go for a run i feel so f**king alive its untrue.
So i am sat here in my town house thats not seen a decorater in years and i think ***** to it, life moves so quick - before you know it you'll be 70 thats unless some horrible disease does not get to you first and cut you short.
i'll have the tiny cottage and 1.2 fiesta when i'm 80 but whilst i'm young(ish) to enjoy life i'll carry on spending what money i have on silly daft cars that make me grin like am idiot and worry about the future later on.
besides you can only sleep on one bed and cr*p on one bog.
I'll keep the Scoob the big house can wait

AL's hit it right on the head I do drive her hard and god knows i coulld have saved myself a fortune in money time and of course the STICK! but hey I bought the car for enjoyment and **** me do I love it ..... It makes me proud to Know you all.... and happy when the likes of the Skywalkers and Bri and mandy want me to drive infront of them for the entertainment value....

And I know even if our paths had never crossed or AL had have got to snake pass that night and the club was too busy with the Smac's to notice a small scared very very pale 24 yr old with a love for that funny shaped scoob ...... that my car would still be "Abused" every day its why i bought it in the first place and not something sensible I mean look at my bills i could have a fooking good morgage for what i pay now!,......My point being I think things were/are suppose to happen like this to make you realise how great your friends are and How blessed I am to have friends such as you lot and your familys It's been said the cars seem to have come second over friendships made and I Totally agree as much as I'd love to tell stu to take that Malaysian super car and **** off I cannot

Yeah but !
There is nothing to argue about in your first paragraph, but Al there is a price to pay for exploring the "envelope", JB and yourself (to my knowledge), got away with only a financial hit, and I to expect my own drive shaft bill soon ??
We are not all so lucky, I did my "learning" back in 1995, and the legacy is a bad back and a **** job.... I'm lucky I managed to walk away from my first, and biggest mistake.
It was only by sticking to the quieter country roads that I managed to not collect anyone else in the process.
Whilst loving all to WYIOC to bits (in a manly way), we don't all have bottomless wallets, I'm lucky to be able to budget a £1000 a year for maintenance and mods. Soon eaten by tyres, MOT, servicing and laser allignment again....
JB live it to your budget, but remember that hard driving costs.
