Jim, you probably should have posted this in the General discussion area, as it is more likely to be seen by the driver in question.

Give me a minute though - I need to get some popcorn

Awww come on.

He has probably spent £10k on that classic ford shed trying to make it go faster than an ickle £4k UK Impreza

These classic car owners have got deep pockets.

Besides its 100kg lighter than factory due to the rust holes.

prob coz they need to spend most of there time fixing the car, rather than posting on the interweb

Escort coswoth a standard car + specialist engine from a 3rd party = scooby killer (???)

so a more accuate comparison would be scoob vs XR3i

Genuine question here folks. How easy is it to get 400bhp from a scooby then? I have a friend with an STiV which goes well, but appears to be stuck at the 350 bhp odd mark.

Also, providing there are no launches (which I fully accept will kill most transmissions with any reasonable power) how does the transmission hold up?

Slagging an Impreza?

Here?

With our reputation?

What is the man thinking?

The only Ford I'd ever really want. I'll be on here next year telling you all how I wasted an Impreza in my Lancia Delta - if it holds together that is

With the time money and inclination, quite easy to reach 400bhp. Its easier depending on which base model you start with, new clutch would be a must and maybe a spare gearbox knocking about

As for the Escos, still nice cars, stupidly overpriced and spend far too much time in the garage...would still have one though

The STi 5 is a good base car to work with but you will need a fmic, 550cc injectors, MD321H turbo and a remap.

its only a good base once the OEM bottom end has let go

to answer the transmission question, there are quite a few 6speeds holding up at 400\400 but it will be the very limit of a 5spd sti box and you can forget even trying to pull away with a standard 5spd box

I am on a standard bottom end with standard sti 3 gear box at around 380/390bhp with about 350 torque not had a single issue.

strange your profile says you have a "P1 Bottom end with a V9 crank" in an sti3...so hardly a standard sti5.

I have a P1 box running substantially over 350\350 and I have no problems either...400\40+ is a different story.
