Although I did get trounced by an Astra 1.4 on the way back - however I'm pretty sure he/she didnt realise there was a speed camera around the corner - despite the 6 signs saying so!

I've had similar on the A21 sometime ago. It was a silver one too. I was expecting him to absolutley obliterate me going up the hill from the M25/A25 Westerham junction. However I stuck with him and he was only marginally pulling away from me and yes he was trying
I was quite surprised that he didnt absolutely trounce me. If it had been a turbo or RSR (I've been behind an RSR on my bike and oh my god they move ) I wouldn't have even gone anywhere near him though due to the severe whipping one of those would give our scoobs

A Type R will keep up with a 996, infact, to 60 it will edge in front. I'd still favor a 996 to get to 100 before any Type R/scoob less than 320(ish)bhp.
It all depends on which 911. A 996 C4 cab tiptronic will get beat by a 300bhp+ scoob every day of the week. A C2 coupe manual is a different story, though it may not blow a 300bhp scoob away, it will pull in front non the less. (please don't start spouting crap about 'twisties')
I don't see how a standard UK turbo could keep up with a 996 (even a 3.4). I was in with a freind who has a chipped 238bhp waggon, a 996 was up his backside, when my freind pulled over the porker went passed with ease. It didn't fly past, but it wasn't a race. I'm not sure if I pull away from him as well as that in my 310bhp Type R.

I've seen various figures for the 996 C2 manual, 0-100 in 11.4 seconds, whereas the STi 8 PPP takes 12.2 seconds.
There is little doubt that the 911 would have the upper hand from 60+, and will trundle on, (with some urge )to 177 mph.

A P1 will do 100 in 13.3 and a 22B in 13.1. I can't see a STI8 doing it in 12.anything. I've seen figures of 14.1 for the STI8.
GT magazine (a Porsche mag) claim a time of 10.9 to 100 for the 911. Quite a difference.
I had a play with a C4 cab in my Type R (310bhp)and kept up no problems. we stopped at about 80mph due to a roundabout.
It could have been a tiptronic, in which case, easy pray.
I'd feel confident that I could keep up with a C2 manual to 70-80mph, but after that I don't fancy my chances.
Going back to the original poster, what car have you got, what bhp you runin'?
