Standard systems have a cat in the downpipe a cat in the centre as well as a twin tail backbox.
The STI version however lost the cat in the centre.

If your after a standard system just to pass MOT's then you will get away with replacing the centre (4 bolts and 1 hangar) at test time, so long as you warm the car up before the test.

Chris

P.s. I've a spare BB for sale if its required.
I also have a brand new centre for MOT time - your welcome to borrow it if your local.

THANKS FOR THE HELP

I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY SUBARU THAT THE MIDDLE SECTION IS NOT A CAT BUT A RESONANCE CHAMBER THAT JUST LOOKS LIKE A CAT, THE SALOON HAS 2 CATS, SOMEONE ON THIS SITE TOLD ME THE SAME, OTHERS SAY THE SALOON IS DIFFERENT THAN THE WAGON SYSTEM AND OTHERS SAY ITS NOT, YOU CAN IMAGINE IM PRETTY CONFUSED NOW, MY MATE IS BRINGING HIS UK SPEC DOWNPIPE AND CAT FOR ME OF HIS WAGON AND I JUST HOPE THAT IT FITS IN WITH MY CURRENT S/S SYSTEM,ANYWAY IM IN GAINSBOROUGH NEAR LINCOLN , FAR FROM YOU? HOW MUCH FOR THE B/BOX?
IF IT FITS I WILL BORROW YOUR CENTRE IF IT WILL DO THE TRICK THANKS

Lancashire

Its easy to see if a centre is catted or not - simply look down the pipe and if there a square holed mesh there, then its catted. If there's no mesh then its a decatted STI version.
Looking at the outside won't help - they all have identical heat sheilds etc
