Which way to go
#1
Hi Guys
I am leaving my company to go it alone from 1 Nov 99 and have to make the decision whether to buy the company Lease Scooby or buy another.
My car MY98 (Regd April98) Red, Turbo, Saloon, Factory A/C, Cruise Control, FSH etc 66,000 miles, basic alarm. The Scoobysport exhaust, Filter, CD etc can be swapped over.
Autolease want £13,895 for it, but then I have to add £1388.92 for early termination and my company want the £1388.92 (two Months deposit that they paid up front. It may be that I can persuade them to drop the deposit Money.
So the dilemma is do I pay £16,672 (or £15,283.92 if they will drop the deposit) for a 66,000 mile Easter 98 saloon in red with air, or
can I get better value elsewhere. Car must be MY98 or newer saloon with air, the rest can be fitted later

The Impreza holds its value well but over £15k for a 68,000 mile car is far too much. For one thing, yuur 3yr 60,000 mile warrenty has already expired. I would suggest importing a new MY2000 for the same money (even though I wasn't brave enough and went for a UK model).
Have you tried haggling with the lease company. I'll imagine it will go to auction if you don't buy it and they might get £12k if they are lucky.

1) the early termination penalty is a problem for your *previous* company not you, i.e. if you don't take the car with you then they will still have to pay it if they want rid!
2) at nearly £17k is sound way too expensive to me (not sure about the UK warranty but doesn't it have a mileage limit?). With that mileage (no doubt carefully driven ) it could be expensive to run?
Why not scan around the net and see else you can get for the £££ . . .?
try these for starters:

I'm sure my warrenty states 3yrs or 60,000 milea, whichever comes first. I'm sure the lease company are just trying it on with their estimation. Just talked to a friend who's a dodgy car dealer and he says he'd buy for £10-11k and sell for £12.5k. If you love your car tell them you'll pay £13k max and see what they say.
The £13k max is all inclusive.

When our company's lease firm sells the car they are sold for "silly money" so I'm told. So your leaseer would seem to be expensive.
Depending on how bad you want the car, letting them keep it and taking your chances at the auction may be an idea.

autolease at £13895 are basically asking for the glasses guide trade figure for the car!
the other trade book cap see your car at either £12800 in clean condition or £12000
in avaerage condition. if possible why not try for somewhere in the middle ie 13k. would save autolease trying to dispose of the car. if you dont have to pay back deposit the cars a bargin!!!!!!!

That's too much, look for an import.
You will get a higher spec. faster car for less money.
I know somebody who has some in stock or check out further back on the private for sale section of the BBS and see if any you fancy are still available.
If you want a WRX get in touch direct and I will pass you the guys telephone number.
Mike.
