Not saying theres dodgy people here, but there definately are dodgy people out there selling dodgy bits off someone elses pride n joy

Has given me a quote, a little on the expensive side since i could ad 300 quid to his price and get a reconditioned engine with 3 months warranty from API.
Well ill just have to keep on looking but thanx for the tip off Paul, really appreciated it

Thanks Houghton but im really after a version 4 and want it complete with everything since i dont have other bits and bobs before hand since i need the engine as part of a project where by im building a sti v4 ffrom a sport model.
But thanks anyway,
before i completely leave this out of interest, can u PM me with what exactly you would have been willing to provide with the engine, mileage, condition and price. Maybe i may be interested for another project
Cheers

You arent referrin to the engine TwoHats is offering me are you by any chance.
if you are then the reason i cant buy his is cos it is for sale beyond my budget since it doesnt come with some bits n bobs as i require plus i want to buy the engine but wont really fit it in for a few weeks so if something goes wrong then i cant really return an engine a month after lol. Thats y i need an engine with complete wiring loom, key, ECU, intercooler, turbo and also an alternator which he is missing.
To be quite honest, i cant really afford anything past a V4 sti unless someone wants to flog a newer engine to me
Do remember, i am not only buying an engine. This is just the beginning of the project, i am yet to buy complete suspension, drive shafts, gear box, clutch, petrol tank etc etc so the shopping list is an expensive one
However, if you have anything else, drop me a PM cos i still am interested.

I wasnt referring to the one that Andy (Two Hats ) has, I know Jon (CustomScoobyIOM) has classic engines as well. Its not as easy to say "complete" wiring loom for the engine because that part of the loom is integrated into the whole car loom as well. Also try David at API he has loads of engines. You need to budget on £1000 to £1500 for a complete classic engine depending what it is or upto £3500 for a new age STi

Kilo,
you would be better off with a version 3 sti than a 4.
Visually they are identical, electrically they are identical. The only difference is the cam belt tensioner I believe whch is behind the cam belt cover anyway. I think there might be a slight difference on the ancillaries brackets, but am not 100% certain.
I do know that the camshafts of the version 3 are meant to be the best of the lot so you would be better off having those as a starting point.
I had a version 4 sti, the engine went and I now have it running a version 3 engine without needing the change anything.
If I didn't tell people they wouldn't know, except that the version 4 was a 2.2 in my case!

Hi David, i contacted you guys a while ago. Was very pleased with the quality of service by u guys but did explain to the person dealing with issue that the price was beyond my budget which was understandable since ure engines are recondition and are next to new. So really icant afford a reconditioned engine and am looking for a second hand one straight from another car, nevertheless some parts im definately getting from u guys as the prices were right for me

Why are you upgrading a sport? Surely by the time you've spanked a load of money upgrading the engine, drivetrain, brakes, suspension, fuel pump, ECU, front mount cooler (unless you get a turbo bonnet too) etc, which will be needed to take the power.... You might as well just have spent 8k of a good V3 STi
I imagine your insurance would be very high compared to a standard STi.
