Newbie Introduction - ImprezAL
Hi everyone,
Following on from my Newbie/3 Arches stuff, I thought it was time that I introduced myself, I am Alex and I live pretty close to Cardiff Airport
I'm (sadly) 30.
My most recent purchase is an 06 Hawkeye WRX SL PPP in Obsidian Black, 60k on the clock, couple of bits and bobs here and there (dressing mainly, not my thing but I'll take it!)

So far she has had a full service at Indigo GT, then new coilpacks, a CV boot and some general once-overy and adjustery at Three Arches following a worrying (but essentially minor) breakdown/flatbed style Saturday *sigh*
My aim is to give it a fairly easy life, mild tune only as it's my daily driver and on the short trips I'm already taking heavy damage on MPG. Maybe restore some classic burble. Fairly sure I'll need to do something with the exhaust. Presently seeking decatted up-pipe.
I had always fancied an Impreza having seen 2 take shape over the course of several years (Classic RA's), and a couple merrily burbling around the place, and thought that because of my ongoing back problem, something bigger and more comfortable might have suited me. I never touch motorways these days so it's all been B-road and A-road for a while, short trips mainly/sadly for MPG. Impreza seems to be lapping the journeys up beautifully so far.
My previous ride was an AP1.5 S2000 GT which I adored and used constantly, several times per day. Sun, rain, snow and ice, I covered approx 28k miles in that S2000 whilst only being on the motorway for a grand total of about 20 hours (probably less) over a 3 year period. That's a lot of bumpy B road miles! Perfectly comfortable and civilised mainly, 30MPG on my short commute/odd deep thrash mix, but I could no longer get in and out of it without bringing on a back spasm of epic proportions, so she had to go
Berk racing decat, anthracite OEM wheels, otherwise fairly standard. Would recommend to anyone that I liked and would gladly own again.
Other previous chariots include but are not limited to :-
Vauxhaull Omega MV6 3.0 Manual (Facelift)
Standard Prodrive bits, full heated leather, etc. Replaced Prodrive exhaust with Prospeed one for noise only, sounded like a real mechanical "chiming-at-the-front, roaring-at-the-rear" V6 after that, lurvly
Rover 620Ti
Loved it, very nice colour, LSD, lowered on Vitesse Sport wheels, forge DV, boost controller, intake, Longlife custom turbo-back exhaust. Front seats were crippling on a daily basis - this is when my back issues started but put up with it for several years. Silly but I fall for my cars sometimes, not only this one.
Vauxhall Carlton 2.0 GL
Sold it for more than I bought it for after putting 40k miles on it, never washed it, crashed it, brilliant vehicle - water pump went @ 280k, shame.
Several Mini's
Nothing nice really, sometimes fun but deeply depressing mostly - one was a 4spd, all were leaky and tiny. That "heater". Misery!
MG Maestro Turbo's #435 and then #469
First was tweaked and lovely - my first real car, mods and all, got stolen from UHW and killed in Ely on Grand Avenue speedbumps, sump off - second was OK, never replaced my love for the first.
Fiat Seicento "Sporting"
Brilliant fun, cheapish, excellent first car. Gave it away to my sister when she passed her test. Quite enjoyed it that little motor.
MG Maestro 2.0 EFi
Never made it to the road, died a death before I passed my driving test!
That pretty much covers it, so I look forward to seeing you all around, and maybe one day another user will "spot" me out and about, I'm constantly waving at Scoobies but never get anything back but odd looks.
Cheers!

Welcome Alex.
Glad your intent is to keep it real and normal, it's the new modified. The work you have had done so far, as been carried out by two of the best places in South Wales.

So I've been absent for a long time and thought I'd say hello again because of the silence.
I've had a fairly shocking few years with some (thankfully minor) ill health, a terrible career choice, months on end without money and at one stage *gulp* using a purple 08 Matiz for commuting. Overtake you say? Madness I say. I've worked at a sh1thole garage getting sh@t on daily and indeed monthly, and I've worked with great people delivering and collecting cars and vans around Cardiff and S. Wales. I now, touch wood, should be getting straight! Thank the moon and stars.
All of this time, I've kept my Hawk WRX in the very best shape possible (straight, if a little dirty - see my RR pic) and it's served me well with just a touch of devastating cruelty and possibly malice.
Long story short I shall summarize as follows:
Never be unlucky enough to strike a half brick that's fallen off an Alan Griffiths tipper whilst going quite quickly - very lucky I missed the bigger bits and that nothing touched bodywork or glass
Doesn't look so bad but cracked wheel, naffed tire, bent suspension, and rather brown pants.
If your temp gauge looks like this (having been higher) when only idling and left to cool for a few minutes, call Three Arches or get your workshop cleared and tools out (the former for myself)

Don't wash your car too often, do rolling road to ensure all is well following extensive and expensive work

When you do wash it, take your time and agonize over every detail. Then wait for a sunny day and ensure you enjoy every minute you can

Other notes:
If some old codger smashes your wing mirror off, stops to look at his own car then tries to do a runner, all while you are in the car parked up with engine running waiting for a passenger to enter the car, do use launch control to pursue said ********, do become irate when he tells you it's your fault, do laugh in his face while jotting down his reg and noting his damage, then do call the police. Don't accuse him of being a sly, nasty, selfish, stupid old sh1tbag who should have been forcibly retired from the living when he lost his soul back in '95.
To close this out, I am on the hunt for BC BR coilovers, centre cat pipe, better brakes which I might have just sorted, flaps, maybe a different back box depending on how it sounds with no cats on the Prodrive box.
That's the important stuff covered, I look forward to lurking hard core for many years to come
I've been morethan Freeman, thank you for listening.

Al,
Holy resurrection indeed.
Glad the world of pooh is behind you (literally) and you are on the up. Are you on FB, as we have a pretty active SWS page with stuff going on including the usual meets.
If you had been a bit sharper you could have come to the Le Mans 24 hr this weekend, an epic boys trip combining a stag doo, 40th and Fathers Day
Drop me a PM with you FB details and we will get you in. Be prepared when you arrive as we have blokes and ladies with Beetles, Datsuns and even rusty old Fords but to top it off some even have French stuff
See you on the other side

Thanks for the kind words and encouragement amigo, much obliged
I've not yet been convinced to be on t'internets that there facecloth though one of these days/nights I'm sure to do so. Le Mans sounds like a great time too, I hope you and the crew really soak it all in and let it all hang out! After ten tins of Carlsberg I'd be climbing into the wrong tent (again)
I never did catch her name
