looks a right mess under the bonnet.

who mapped it or was it just a "super-chip"

thats the problem with these cheap classics, people bolt on a few upgrades and then leave it.surely if its been mapped they would be able to tell you who mapped it?

Shrek mate I think the engine looks honest really as it just looks dry and dusty I would have raised my eyebrows if it was oily it just looks like the guy never knew how to detail it properly, the full service history is what makes it a worth while viewing as that is one stipulation on any car I have ever viewed for myself.SJ.

yeah i see what your saying,i think with the cheap classics they attract alot of younger buyers who may be able to afford the car but not be able to afford to look after it.

other than that it looks nice.

find out about the cambelt etc and if its not been done then get some £££ knocked off the price

It looks like there are a fair few dings on the nearside. It a fair distance away from Cardiff but like the dings it's a bargaining point.

Hi Chris the car in the add looks quite good, if I was going to look at it I would ask if they can give you details on who mapped it or if they can find out off the old owner as this would be important, if there is no map done and all that bolted on then it won't be no where near what they claim the bhp to be and the engine is at risk depending how long they have been on there as mileage is getting on a little so it needs to be right

Also check all the usual and look for rust on the rear arches any thing else like bumpers doors etc... Are easy to paint or replace and the engine bay will clean up easy just a bit of tlc

Always hard to tell what a car is like from pics these days as you can photo shop or add effects etc to make them look so much better than they are so always best to view and try it out and also take someone who knows a bit about cars for a second opinion

Hope this helps a little and good luck

IMO like The Trooper has said there are a few dings and scuffs here and there but it's around 14 years old with over 100k on the clock so to be expected. It all depends on what you want the car for? Weekend car or everyday driver? If it's the later then worth a look and enjoy it for what it is use the negative points, dings, scuffs, lack of mapping info etc as a bargaining tool and a good service history is a MUST!
I go with my gut instinct, if I don't feel 100% about it then walk away with your hard earned still in your pocket, there'll be others and the right one will turn up.

Thanks for the pointers guys , I'll try to give him a call today , obviously it might be hard work being Nye .
Fair point about the map and the upgrades . Also I can see your point to a extent about younger fellas having the dosh to buy older classics , I'm looking at it from a project side of things really . Something I can keep and improve.
Cheers boys
Chris .

Hiya jay , yeah mate it's going to a daily driver .
To be honest from a car this age I don't expect it to be perfect .
Like I said before I want something I can make right with time and enjoy it day to day as I don't do massive amounts of Mileage .

I'd hold out for a better one if it were me especially as it's a fair old trek for you and from a trader, you really want to be buying one directly of an enthusiast or a specialist at this age and price point, it may cost a few more quid but it will be money well spent in the long run.

Haven't got much time, in a rush but one thing I've seen in the ad - it says 16" 6 spoke alloys.

Has my maths or my eyesight gone west ?

I appreciate that, but what else might be different?

Main reason I mentioned it was the recent thread re. the Impreza with 118, or was it 128 - no, 180K miles on the clock. That was a possible 'typo' as well.

(Sorry, my suspicious mind I suppose Captain )

I have read the thread with the dealer and mileage in general section and just goes to show that you need to be on the ball and check everything as that guy ended up with a super high mile car which he payed a lot more than it was worth and will be hard to sell on when the time comes

Yes mate agree. But he admits he did not check the details. There is no mention of the arches either. The dealer site as a wide selection from £50k to £795 but they all seem to be OK. But the Scoob engine bay puts me off, too much attention to the interior and paintwork.

If your going to that much trouble do the whole car.

From my perspective that's a standard uk car, engine bay looks very tired.... Straight away there's money to be spent on that car, wheels for one before anything else I imagine.

Take some time out there's no rush there's loads about and quite a few good ones.... Get on the for sale section in here see what comes up, there's some really good cars from time to time. The chances are you can find a nicely modded one and clean under the bonnet, on here you can then search the user name and find all the history out on the car from comments and threads started.

Spot on Lee, rear arches are a hot spot plus around the front and rear windscreen where the drainage channels are, they can block and get rusty.
That was the first check on mine, rear arches I walked straight in and ran my hand around them, ok I had rust on the front screen but that was fine it was a screen out fix... But if the arches are shot walk away.
