Been thinking about this.....

Hows about a Border run in and around the excellent Wye Valley.
Take in some stops at places like Chepstow Castle, Tintern Abbey etc for some pics etc?
Date, how about 29th Dec (Sunday Morning), culminating in dare I say a pub lunch??

Feel free to throw in other ideas, as unlike a Castle nothing is set in stone!

What do you mean "salt the roads up" Bry ????????????

Torfaen and BG's in dire financial mire, so salt will probably be the last resort.

Anyway, in the true spirit of Christmas I suggest we descend upon a convoy of Fords and hold their hands while they negotiate Llangynidr moors (or the Forest of Dean if we're out hunting ready for the 6-Nations).

Excalibur was

I'm happy, although I'd have to be back before dark.
Strange things happen after dark when there's a Black Moon.

My football bets come up !

PS no more than 200 miles, unless you can guarantee me a Momentum (or Nitro+) filling station on the course er.... way.

Got to take in consideration that it needs to be central for most that's why Brecon etc are a good start point

Yes a lot of people tend to come along from the west making the beacons an ideal mid point.and some pretty groovy roads to boot! I use the words "a lot" quite loosely as Christmas normally doesnt see more than 10 turn up but it is one of the best runs of the year

"I use the words "a lot" quite loosely as Christmas normally doesnt see more than 10 turn up but it is one of the best runs of the year", hence thinking Border way & maybe get Bristol & Bath/West-Mids involved (as all fairly close)....only a thought guys....

Anywhere guys, I'm a river, i go with the flow....just need to get the ball rolling!

If we have plenty of Westies how about Margam Park & Gower etc?
Pembrey may have rallying on the 29th (Burgers Bry.....)?

Brecon, Llandovery, Llyn Brianne Dam, Abergwesyn, back through to Builth Wells, Talgarth, Abergavenny?? A route that me and the Mrs do now and then. For those who live around the Brecon area they could split off just out side Talgarth too. Got a bit of everything on that route

Guess there is nothing stopping 2 groups starting out and meeting at a central location like Brecon town or even Builth Wells. 101 good routes from either of those towns. The Brecon to Builth road is a bloody good one.....

Bry and myself live near Abrgavenny, Cwmbran, Ebbw Vale areas so if it's ok with Bry we could meet others at a meeting point and make a tidy run up to Brecon or Llandovery, I really don't mind and I'll go with the majority.

If it dose go ahead we might need a list of people who will attend and then by private message state the Date/ time and meet point as you never know who is watching

Who - the Old Boy in his Merc ??????????????????
(****, it's still witching hour -25 mins)

Someone has to start it off, so:

A route based around Brecon (someone come up with one) for us all, and 'splinter groups' to make their way there eg. Dave_T via Wye Valley, Bry etc. via Heads of the Valleys, etc. etc.
People can decide how to get there and who to get there with.

That's an example.
So, where's the Main Event to be?

Then we can find someone to arrange The Run, and any (every)one else can organise how to get there.

I get your drift, but I'd suggest (getting ready to be knocked down here ):

1. The date, time & meeting point is totally open for ALL to see. Also provide an approximate end time/location (maybe a pub?).

2. Invite other clubs etc, WTF not?).

3. The approximate route mileage is made known (sadly required for fuel purposes)

4. The actual route is kept a secret where photocopies can be handed out on the morning!

Brecon way sounds like the common consensus, which is all good. I'm sure all that want to meet up 'enroute' can sort themselves out.

Local knowledge is everything and jayp71 obviously knows the area well and sorry mate there seems no-one better to sort a route out for us!

So hands up for jayp71

Only request from us is we do stop somewhere that sells Profiteroles lol

I take it that the previous runs have been a series of 'point to points' with a stop/catchup between (rather than one long blat).

The normal Christmas/New Year run is not a huge group as it draws attention, especially if an individual bellend decides he's Petter Solberg/Ken Block. Pub's are avoided (unles it's a family day or specific trip with an overnighter) to avoid the tempation of the demon booze, I know the local Bill are doing a morning after purge in the area. Morrison/Tesco/Sainsbury's do good all day brekkie's (and 99 for TESCO's).

It's easier to control a small group, losing someone who is not local with sh*te comms is allows a pain. We use the Trg Area for a fair bit (insider knowledge ) and the B Roads ensuring that the traffic is not too much of a problem. TG magazine have a Lap of Wales feature this month and the Mid/West Wales routes are pretty much the normal MWR bread and butter.

Unless the Llanberis (via Aberystwyth, Towyn and Dolgellau) and back in day needs a revisit .

Anyway just my experience over the last few years .

Somewhere that doesn't sell them, and will give you a substitute for free

Anyway, what's the definition of Ian's "not a huge group", so we can see get a general idea of how many it's limited to?

Tbh I'm 50-50 and would probably be the first to pull out if we were on the limit and someone else wanted to go, but I'd help make up numbers (on the basis that 5's better than 4 or whatever).
The reason is that I don't really want to risk overdoing things, especially on roads I'm not familiar with.

Hi cat...wtf is why (or what) the f#ck. So in my context it was 'why not ask other clubs along'...

I get everyones comments and have no issues.

I hope you can see that as a SN Padawan i'm trying (& struggling) to tune in to the ethos of what is wanted or expected. Still cant work out whether its:

1. A trip/gathering on some tidy roads with a few stops for some socialising/chat. Drive 'spirited' if you like, but like all driving at all times 'its at your risk'. If this is the case then surely the more the merrier.

2. A planned route to drive at warp factor nine. To be honest I can do this myself at any time.

i think best to have central meeting point that is easiest for everyone which someone has mentioned, yes defo about pm the exact route..so the easiest bit is where to meet..beacon? once all have agreed..then we go in stealth mode about it and any other members who might be interested in the run can pm.. lets not over confuse this and sort basic time and place before thinking about how many stops etc..:-)

have asked jayp71 if he'll sort a route which will be kept private (its better to not even PM these things as you still dont really know who you are PM'ing do you). If we really want it kept '007 style' we'll have a known meet point and time. When you get there you will be given a route/map & contacts!

If jayp71 will sort a route i'm sure he will suggest a start point...

We always meet in Merthyr and that's over 40 min drive for me then but don't mind that It has always gone from there even when runs to north Wales have been sorted that has been the choice best suited to start the day
Just a suggestion tho
