Unhappy Engine check light

Hello, on the way home to night my check engine light came on! Now I'm a big worrier so, does someone know anyone with a code reader? Don't fancy doing the wire thing and count the flashes! Might plug it in wrong!

Thanks Claire

Without sounds arsey, unless you plug them in or get a code reader (if you have an OBD equipped vehicle) then your fubared!

Your a bit vague in the reason why it came on, ie where you just driving normally, have you hade any new bit's fitted, driving hard, where there any other signs or indications?

See the link below.

Why but a code reader when the damn car will tell you?

My 7 year old could plug one black plug into the other black plug and turn the ignition on

If you can wait until the weekend, you're welcome to call over.

If the car is a v2 or 96 and older, code reader wont work anyway.

Just plug in the 2 wires, count your long dash's as 10 and short dash's as 1, add the two together and bob's your uncle, you have the code number which you can find the error on scoobynet.

It is quite simple.

Default I'm back

Right I connected both black together, I had 2 long flashes and then 2 short ones! Then it did it again!

I've looked it up and it's knock sensor! Everyone agree?

If so what does the knock sensor do?

Detects knock in the engine. It's mounted under the intercooler on the block and can be bought for less than £100.
