Lightbulb How can I adjust my dump valve?

Does anyone know how to set an aftermarket dump valve?

How do you set it?

I know it can be set on Hard or Soft.....which is best

I'ts a loud supersonic one and I like it to sound loud

Any ideas...........

P.S- What do they actually do? (apart from make loud noises!

I don't know how to adjust one but I think the purpose of the dump valve is too keep the turbo spooling so when you change gear the turbo is wound up and ready to go...........I think!

Someone wth more knowledge will tell you or just google it.

I believe that the Supersonic valves if I remember correctly have an adjusting screw at the top of blue body which you screw in or out which then adjusts the spring tension inside the valve.

I think the further you screw it in you harden the spring and thus you get a louder whoosh, if you screw it out you get a more controlled and gradual whoosh as if you are trying to slip out a silent but deadly bottom burp without anyone noticing.

Cool

i believe you can change the springs inside....harder/softer
but why do you want to adjust it for if not broke
if its not dont tweak it

ps the exact purpose of a recirculating valve is to allow excess boost to be vented back into the intake system, this allows the turbo to keep spinning whilst the excess pressure is pushed back into the inlet tract where it enters just before going back into the turbo.

The purpose of a VTA or dump valve is to make noise, it literally dumps all the excess pressure out into atsmosphere (hence Vent To Atmosphere), this can cause turbo stall as the turbo has none of it's excess pressure re-entering the inlet and does often give a flat spot.

The best adjustment is to leave the normal one on.

The softer the setting the less boost it will need to build up to dump the pressure! The harder the setting it will need to be on nigh on full boost before it dumps! I changed the spring on my Forge one to a harder one, on normal driving the boost pressure would stall the turbo and cause a 'flutter' sound

is it a turbosmart one or greddy, and it will also depend on boost your running if your runing strd boost then your best setting is soft if your running alot of boost the setting should be soft ,iv used most bov over the years if you can tell me the make i may be able to help more, but as stated bov arnt that clever on scoobys they cause idle problems if not set proply.

If its the Turbosmart one then the entire blue section turns. You adjust it to suit then. You need someone to help you though as you control the throttle and they adjust the valve

If you alter the dump valve would you have to have it re-mapped?

You would have to get it mapped if you put one on?

NAH......LMAO!

Course not. You can fit an aftermarket dump valve to a scooby no problems.

In fact, it has been said that fitting an aftermarket dump valve helps with the performance of the turbo.

My Scooby is re-mapped with a Prodrive pack (for new) anyhow.

If you decide to get one let me know.....my hubby can fit one perfectly in 30 min.

A Bailey dump valve is a good one to start with. Their not too expensive and recommended by many dealers.

^^^

If you are fitting a VTA then a remap is preferable to be done but not absolutely essential.

If anyone is thinking of changing to an aftermarket VTA then I'd go for a Forge unit as they are much better than a Bailey's which quite frankly are only good as a paperweight.

From experience the best option is to leave the standard recirculating unit on.

+1 - Subaru spent millions designing the inlet system on your Impreza, fitting a chav-valve, "for da noizes, innit", is not the way to go. Lots of differing opinion on whether or not they harm your engine, but is it really worth the risk.

good luck!

OF COURSE AN UPGRADED DUMP VALVE IS GOING TO BE BETTER THAN A STANDARD ****TY ONE! (COMMON SENSE EH).

THEY DO NOT MESS YOUR ENGINE UP!

AND BAILEY DUM VALVES HAVE AN EXELLENT REPOUTATION (OF COURSE, THER ARE BETTER ONES OUT THERE) BUT FOR THE PRICE ITS A GOOD MODIFICATION.

I WAS WARNED ABOUT "THESE" FORUMS.

ITS BEEN FUN. SEE YA.

Why come on asking questions when you already appeared to have answered your own questions?

We are all entitled to our own opinions but when someone disagrees with you then have a reasoned argument/discussion about it; after all we can learn from others.

And please turn the CAPS LOCK off.

there are different opinions to dump valves as for the baileys one's i had 1 on my classic and it sent the running all to **** rags even after trying another brand new it was the same .oh and yes i have got a dump valve on my newage(not baileys ) which was on the car when i bought it and had the car remapped with it on and have had no problems .there are a lot of people on here who have had scoobys for a long time and know their stuff about them and you have got to take criticism about certain things look at my thread about some parts i have fitted some people like them some people hate them that's just life

Many performance specialist don't fit dump valves, Litchfield Spec C's running 400 bhp run with the normal Subaru DV and Air Box. Many people think that because they are fitted to Rally Car it's OK to have them as well. But, Rally cars are rebuilt after each race, you you pays your money and you takes the chance.

Not my personal favourite, it'll only draw attention to you if you like that sort of thing.

+ 1

I upset (not my intention) the op the other day when I questioned certain quotes on a post re: GRRR Skoda VRX Hater. Don't post questions on here if you don't like or disagree with answers given especially if you think you already know the answer, and don't post stories if you dont like being asked questions on your story telling......simples......No need to throw toys out of prams etc, it makes you look very silly

From one of the best and respected specialist developers in the Subaru community, a Standard DV and airbox. I know which I prefer.
