Question 2004 STI Engine, How strong?

What are these like for reliability? If all goes to plan my next car (still a classic) will have one of these in it with a Classic STI box. Its running just over 300bhp. Wondering if its worth the investment.

I would be careful Calv. The engine is sound but would consider the box to be the weak link only because of age, make sure it's got a beefy clutch.

If its the 754 box it should be fine as for the engine it'll last its if I'm correct it'll be a semi closed deck.

Is the car silver by any chance??

It'll be a SCDB with AVCS heads! The engines will handle 400bhp all day long, a few are running 450bhp with no dramas bit it's who you speak to the 2005 on engines are mean to be the better of the Newage ones (Non JDM) as they have the stronger crank!

Hope some of this helps Calvin

Is it the complete engine in it or just a shortblock?

If i do manage to get it then it wont go over 330bhp as i think thats plenty in an early classic. The mods on it are ready to take 350bhp but would like it to be safe for a change

They drop newage engines in classics a lot in the states Calivin, there's a lot of info on NASIOC about this. I would think it would need to be the package personally and that would need to be engine, gearbox plus not to overlook you would need the ecu from the donor car as well overwise your looking at a grand on a simtec or similar and not to forget brakes as classic 4 pot would be no good with that so this is not a cheap mod in my eyes unless you get a written off newage car where all the bits are good to swap.

It does say the car has been mapped so i have e-mailed the seller to see what ECU its running and who mapped it. Car is in the Midlands so im guessing it's either Bob Rawle or Simon (JGM) has mapped it. I have budgeted for beefy brakes aswell Just need to get the cash sorted.

My guess would be it's a Newage STI shortmotor with classic heads and ECU, its a major job to fit a full newage STI engine as i think u would need the newage STI ECU and wiring loom to run the AVCS heads...
They do it in the US, but thats becuse they didnt get turbo'd classics in the US.
