Default Shopping List

Over the next few months I am going to have some significant changes to do on the V5 STi. I have decided to keep it (but I have an option on something else ) and make it better. It's now over 100k and it needs a bit of a freshen up.

So far I have a TSL sport cat, new diff carrier with poly bushes, rear sub frame with poly bushes, rear trailing arms with poly bushes and a very special complete interior with door cards (on the way ). The paint work is a given and the re-spray on the boot and front bumper are all in the £3k.

So, recommend the following but consider I don't have a massive budget and have already accounted for £500 with re-spraying a few bits. Any price/links you have would be appreciated.

Suspension - (D2's on ebay £605 all in)?
ARB's and Drop Links - Whiteline or Eibach?
Rear lateral Adjustable links - ?
Exhaust - That will take a bung (No jokes please - new neighbours have horses)?
ALK - Yes or No?
New Front Roll Centre adjusters - ?
Rear Spoiler - CF or OE?
Gauges - DEFI are a bit pricey so do your best. Prosport are £199 all in from Scoobyparts and I have a pod already.

The clutch will be renewed later as it's ok at the mo. Not really interested in more BHP yet but you never know.

Thanks in advance

Stay away from the D2 Coilovers, havent had the best of reviews. Go over a few bumps and the dampening rates drop off. Im putting mine back on the road and have heard alot of people with good things to say about the BC Coilovers that are around the same price. Got mine for £619 delivered. Think theres been a group buy on here for them actually. These were on ebay also, you can make them an offer

Howdy by the way, its time to bring my scooby back out and like you give it a freshen up as its also covered 100k.

For susension Ian I would be tempted to check out the KYB adjustable struts with Eibachs fitted.. they would be my choice if I needed new.

I'm sure Charlie at Prospeed said once, that he could make a Bung up, for any Back Box - that will widen your choices

Agree with SSS with regards to suspension. Thats What I would go for if I needed to change. Mind you I'm more than happy with the standard setup with all the whiteline goodies bolted on.

Si, who supplies these? I know Camskills have a whole raft of KYB stuff.

Danny, I agree with the OE stuff. The pinks I have are pretty good but are now old. There is some secondhand stuff for £350 but I would prefer new or nearly new. Jap Performance Parts have some good CUSCO and TEIN stuff. These would mate nicely with the Whiteline goodies. I may push to the adjustable rear lateral links and front track rod ends.

As nice as the Prospeed pipe is the build quality is not that good. Some of the Jap stuff is the same price and the welds etc are massively superior.

The KYB adjustables are £589 inc VAT and P+P but they come with out springs.

I wonder if my STi springs would transfer over without any issues. But then again I am not sure how old and tired they are Go new ?

I've had KW Variant 1s on my Scoob for 3 years now Ian, not harsh at all and can lower or raise it as and when I need to they are around the grand mark though or the Variant 3s with adjustable damping is a little bit more

I'd be very careful of buying a set of coilovers from Japan, The spring rates are no good for our bumpy roads. Remember there roads are like snooker tables, perfectly flat and super smooth.

I've heard the HKS are the stiffness of the lot, The cusco's I had were awefull, Had super stiff springs and made the car undrivable.

If yor going to go coilovers then the BC stuff is getting good reviews and are very well priced.

Personnally I wouldn't touch coilovers again unless on a track car

So, I am looking at the KYB adjustable shocks with Eibachs. Therefore the budget is getting squeezed a bit already.

Suspension - KYB Adjustable with Eibach Springs.
ARB's and Drop Links - Whiteline.
Rear lateral Adjustable links - ?
Exhaust - That will take a bung (No jokes please - new neighbours have horses)?
ALK - Yes or No?
New Front Track Rod End Roll Centre adjusters - ?
Rear Spoiler - CF or OE?
Gauges - Prosport are £199 all in from Scoobyparts and I have a pod already.

on a budget i'd just get firmer springs, rear whiteline ARB (maybe even go for a 24mm), ALK and drop links and 4 wheel geometry setup. If clutch is being done then consider a flywheel change such as a 6.1kg ACT from Harvey Smith (but no lighter). If you did want any power increase Ported headers and uppipe from Harvey made a big performance difference on my classic once they were mapped on, improved torque significantly.

Another easily forgotten option.......tyres. Get some Toyo R888's - Awesome tyres.

Right then.

Just had an awesome e-mail from Dave Coe (well his wife who knows what's what) with regards to my extensive requests and wish list. I must say I thought I was being a bit necky but he's done a cracking bit of shopping around and gave me loads of info. Apart from my choice on the ARB's he is pretty spot on for doing all the work I need. And the cost is very competitive for two or three days work

Andy, I am not going too wild on performance so the Prada 2's will be fine for a while. But I have a set of headers ready to be ported by Harvey, I have an "on exchange" quote up my sleeve from him

I can here the fair ground music drifting in...........................

Ported Headers and Rear ARB are probably the most cost effective mods imho.

Happy shopping/modding

Cheers for the reply Glenn. I remember Wide (Big Phil) had the oval tail pipe version on his Impreza and it looked very good.

Not a fan of the oval even though I had a 6x4 Oval Magnex on my old blue one, the standard looking 3.5" rolled in scoobysport/H&S/Group N looks much nicer.

I don't think you can beat the HKS silent that Kev and SSS have, Supurb build quality, just right on the noise plus you can fit a bung if needed.

Ps: I found out yesturday my standard suspension has seen better days, Or should I say David found out whilst checking the 1.8 BAR map on a set of S bends!!!!

But as I've just spent £2K on the car it's going to have to wait a few months for funds to build themsleves back up, Also need a new set of 330mm disc!!! I'm going to use AP discs and have the bells modified to fit the discs.

Bang goes another £1300-1400 for those two items alone

Long live the rollercoaster

Dan,

Looking at getting rid of my Standard STi Pinks and springs soon. Your more than welcome to have them as a stop gap if things are bad.

I have seen a set of brand new PRODRIVE Bilstein shocks (the silver ones) that are going cheap and may mate these with the Eibach springs.

Hear what your saying about the HKS Stuff, very nice but I am trying to keep within my budget. It's straining like a banjo string at the minute, just like my my restraint to buy more and more bits

Dan,

Went for a Ninja 2 and bung (now in the new gaff and the car park is near the stables). I had a normal Ninja on my old Classic Wagon and liked the build quality, sound and finish. It's coming with the centre section and I'll mate it up with the Sport Cat when the service, bushes, undercarriage etc is done.

Got a good deal on a complete set of Super Pro bushes from Thor Racing, they quoted a price in their catalogue but it's out of date and they are now cheaper. Well chuffed.

I have sourced a set of new OE Prodrive P1 springs (£100 still boxed ) and may have the Bilsteins to match. The seller of the other set is holding out for more cash but I'll get these for £100 less all in.

I can here the fairground music starting
