Default Intermittent CEL?

Over the last few days I have had an intermittent CEL. Normally first thing in the morning but randomely while driving.

It's not on at start up but will light up for a few seconds then go off after driving for a few miles.

Now the only thing I have done recently is replace some hose clips and added some new pipes to the intercooler. These are all tight and leak free. Oil is fine, coolant is fine, temps OK and she's running like a dream. I did Cardiff to Camberley and back this weekend with no problems except this very annoying CEL

A PSI3 may help but I don't have one and most people have them hard wired in.

Anyone?

I assume you've connected the the two green connectors under the stearing wheel to perform the ECU check????

As you've got an My99 it's bound to be the MAF or the Knock sensor on it's way out. My money on the knock sensor

I know mines an 02 but the CEL played up when the MAF was dying - replaced it and it has been fine ever since

I had very similar fault on mine and got worse in the rain, found it to be the knock sensor. Replaced and fine since.

Best way to deal with it is to have either a hand held or laptop diagnostic tool plugged into your OBD socket so it can read whether or not there is a fault with any of the sensors/electrical ancilliaries. You'll be able to see on the equipment straight away

If it doesn't reveal any CEL based errors at all when the light comes on then you probably have a loose connection or short on the wiring at the the back of the dash, cel light connector or dash itself. Check all your fuses too.

On the off chance gave Anthony at Indigo GT a ring on Friday. Popped up on Saturday, the fecking CEL never came on all the way there!

Had a quick diagnostic done and hey presto a historic Knock Sensor fault.

Indigo GT never even changed me.

I even managed to squeeze a cuppa out of VC

Knock sensor anyone?

Hope so, I have ordered the JDM WRX/STi Version. Really need a PSI3 unit. Scan Gauge 2 and VI Monitors don't work on Classics

Does anyone else do a unit?

One new Knock Sensor fitted , it was the right one from Import Jap Parts.

The old one had a split in the plastic surround.
