Sounds like there's been a big off up there today. Reports of a red Peugeot gone off at Dears Leap, with spectators being airlifted off the ranges.

Hope everyone is okay.

unfortunantly, it gets worse.

BBC NEWS | UK | Wales | Spectator dies after rally crash

Spectator dies after rally crash

A spectator has died after being seriously injured following a collision with a rally car.

The collision happened at the Harry Flatters Rally 09 event on Sunday morning at Dixies Corner near Sennybridge in Powys.

The man, believed to be in his 60s, suffered serious head injuries and was airlifted to Cardiff's University Hospital of Wales.

Despite efforts to save him, he died from his injuries.

The collision happened at around 1027 BST.

Police said the driver of the car also lost consciousness but came around at the scene. He was later taken to hospital but is not believed to have life threatening injuries.

Dyfed Powys Police said officers were called Dixies Corner at Mynydd Epynt, in the Sennybridge military training area after the crash.

Inspector Diane Davies said the man had been watching the rally with his family.

He was left unconscious after the collision and was airlifted by the air ambulance to the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff where he died.

The rally driver was also left unconscious but later came around and was taken to Prince Charles Hospital in Merthyr Tydfil.

Police have appealed to witnesses who may have seen or even filmed the accident to contact them.

Witnesses to the incident are asked to contact police. Those who live in Wales are asked to ring 101 and people in England should call 08453 302000
My thoughts are with the family and friends of the spectator, and also with the crew of the car involved.

Definately the biggest accident ive seen there for a while Including the Talbot a few months back. Still police up there when i left at 4.30. The peugeot 106 was absolutely destroyed. Didnt take any pics out of respect for the injured.

I had to drive over the aftermath of the sheep incident on the way out aswell. When will they learn that cars are much bigger than them

I've been to many rallies at Epynt, the UK and throughout Europe and have seen many off's but have never seen such a bad accident . This Pug left the road at speed after a difficult landing over Dears.

My personal thoughts go out to the friends and family of the gentleman who lost his life watching the sport we all love. My thoughts are also with the crew of the Pug who must obviously be devistated.

My thanks go the emergency services who reacted very quickly and were at the scene within minutes.

A sad day.

Pictures of the car on the BBC news Its the last thing the sport needs at any level but at club level I hope its not a disaster for such a long standing venue and event.

Very sad for the family and friends of the poor guy

A very sad day for the family and motorsport.

After a good finish to yesterday and for this to happen today, is something nobody wanted to hear or see.

My thought's go to the friends & family of the spectator.

I think personally that the section across Dixies needs to be looked at. The last 3 rally's ive been to have had serious accidents on that section.
Admittedly its a challenge but when people are consistently getting injured (or worse in todays case) something has to be done.

As said above.... Condolences go out to the spectators family.

Cars have been crashing on this bit for years, i've seen many destroyed at this location.

Epynt is a very testing place for man and machine, it will bite back if you push beyond your or the cars limits and TBA I think that s the challenge that competitors enjoy.

Motor sport is dangerous its never going to be 100% safe and if it was then it just would not be the same.

Perhaps organisers will have to look at spectating at this location as a repeat of this does not bare thinking about.

I've been to a few WRC's, Forest of Dean's and many more over the years and I was there on Saturday and if I was to be honest, the Marshalling at Dixies was not the best, although the fire/rescue crew were fast to act on a car that caught fire.

A sad day for Motorsport for this to happen is something nobody wanted to hear or see.

My thought's go to the Friends & Family of the spectator.

I'll put my hands up and admit I've stood in some stupid places, you just assume the driver and car are 100% but its often not the case.
I call it yellow jacket syndrome, somehow if you wear one you become invincable............not!

You have to feel for the driver as well, he has to live with this terrible accident.
