Default Help a newbie!

Heya all, some of you I've now met and some I'm sure I will have the pleasure soon.... those who know will have seen the very much standard MY98 at the last meet....

I'm a bit **** and want her as near to 100% as possible before I start the slippery slope of modding so just after your technical brains please (I tend to get ignored in the general technical section!)

1. I get a funny moo noise mostly when entering boost (this weekend for eg was on the motorway a lot and just putting your foot down would get this noise, lift off and it goes....sounds like its from the rear...not sure though...). I've heard this is dump valves a lot - I'm running the standard recirc and cleaned it recently and am fairly sure its ok?!

2. Getting a clunk off the left rear over bumps?! any rubber bits back there that are likely to have failed? Is this something I can just ignore otherwise?

3. Get belt noises on start up and the power steering is very juddery at low revs.... both go on normal driving (think fluid levels are ok). this has only started since having had the engine out for a clutch & cambelt change.

HELP ME SORT THIS SO I CAN START MODDING..... you can suggest on that too if you like, im thinking decat down pipe, front splitter, maybe new tyres or wheels first!!

cheers all!

The boys will be along now Dan. Women, we just like to know if its goes or not.LOL

The clunk over bumps sounds like suspension failure I think and the belt noise could be your in need of a full service maybe with cambelt etc as you usually get that when belts are slipping. Power steering fluid could be low.

Do you know when its was last serviced and what was done.

Hi Dandruffe, i'll try to suggest a few things.

Problem 1, The mooo noise, are you sure this isn't just a vibration or exhaust noise? I've never heard of this before.

Problem 2, The knocking noise when you go over a bump is probably a suspension bush worn out somewhere along the system.

Problem 3, As Gem said check the power steering fluid level. It has 2 measurement scales on the little dipstick, one either side. One side is marked for hot level and other side says cold level. Systems are under their most stress when turning the wheel whilst stationary/ low speeds, so you could be getting an early warning of a slight leak.

Was there a problem with rear struts being prone to clunking It thought Subaru were changing shocks under warranty.

cheers taylor....

1 - guess it could just be a resonant frequency for something at a certain speed... its pretty loud though..... weired!! doesnt sound as if its dump valve to me anyway as thats the logical thing...... maybe it is that cow in the boot though...or the one that sits next to me?! oooooh low blow!! hah!

2 - thought it might be something like that....

3 - will check it out....
