Default Engine Specialist down our way.

Can anyone recommend an engine specialist down our way.

I have a minor head gasket leak on my GT-B and looking to get it replaced.

I am happy to source new Gaskets, water pump, tensioner, belt and associated parts just looking for a recommended place to use?

Has anyone experience with "engineprofessionals" in cardiff? they have already given me a good price for the work and can supply the parts. I am waiting on Andy (ACE) to get back to me but ideally I am looking for somewhere around Swansea to do the work and trying to keep the price keen.

As I see it Engine out and HG replacement, water pump and cam belt should take about 10hrs tops? thoughts?

Appreacited.

Constitution Motors (Subaru) in Norwich not only source import parts for you but have their own Japanese parts CD so they can look up UK equivalent parts with your Japanese VIN number, although it takes a little time. 01603 414623 ask for Sam. They will post small parts for you on request although if you're not local it might be worth seeing what they can do.
Every little helps.

Dude - love that legacy - I spoke to you on the legacy site i think - I posted the pics of the your car at Japfest - its is a beauty in the flesh (if its the same one!).

GOOD CHOICE.

I am looking from somewhere local'ish to do the work on the car and not really looking for a quick fix but thanks for the advice - I doubt it would work anyway as the hg leak is only slight but when on high boost (2nd turbo only and only slightly - does not over heat).

How can I get hold of the this Dave Coe for a quote? is that a garage, specialist or driveway mech?.

Thanks for your advice guys.

K Seal it.com,Car Covers & Caravan Covers.

Look under fix items and additives > K-Seal

Not sure how good this stuff really is, but for £12 odd it may be worth trying as its a lot cheaper than pulling the engine out if it does work.

Default Thx

It is good stuff - but I am not looking for a quick fix.

The problem with K-Seal is it seals on a low pressure basis - which is great for normal head gasket (Overheating) issues. The problem with the scoob is it is only a minor leak but under high boost (2nd turbo) so the K-Seal solution would not address this. The car would run at up to 4K all day its only when you push it above this (2nd turbo 1.1 bar) does it pass extra water to the overflow tank. (it draws it back though).

I really want to get the work done correctly by someone that has done it before - I beleive the HG work is no different on the EJ20R (TT-280) - its just the inlet system that is different and that internally the engine is an open deck but I am not 100% on whether a normal EJ20/G? HG set will fit and be up to the job. I know cosworth do a cosmetic gasket set - but again - I do not know if this is what I need?

Any advice apprecaited.

It may be worth getting a quote from CVC the main Subaru dealer in Cardiff - I know a lot of people steer clear of main dealers assuming they will be more expensive, but when my car needed the belts and oil seals doing, they were quite a bit cheaper than any of the other independent garages I tried.

Main reason seemed to be the labour time was a lot less as they are used to working on the engines.

In theory, any garage should be able to change the HG's on the engine as the engine design isnt anything special, but a lot of the ones I spoke to either said 'sorry, we dont work on cars like that' or hiked up the price thinking 'Impreza owner, he must have a few quid'.

Default HG

I have spoken to Dave and though he is not the best price I have been given he seems to have ticked the boxes I was looking for so I think I will be going down that route.de

Just need to take out a second mortgage now.

Thanks again for the details.

Been to a place today called Promax Motorsport near Llanelli. I was impressed they seem to have a good setup there. Just a few mins of the M4 aswell. I would give them a call. The owner seems a decent bloke and they had plenty of Subaru's in there. They look after a friend of mines Evo 9 but they work on alot of Subaru's aswell.

Default Thumbs up.

I have used Promax already for servicing and alignment and can not fault them. Seem a very decent setup.

I am going to see Dave on Monday as I was very pleased with the chat we had - it will be hard call between the two places - Promax defo get a thumbs up from me - top establishment - friendly and seem very professional with the setup and really know the scoooooob. Just not sure about the EJ20R (GT-B).

Its very hard - not that my hg is a major prob, described as Boost creep "i think" the problem I have is very minor but to get the work done is going to cost () and while the lump is out I have to get other things replaced such as clutch, water pump, oil pump, ANOTHER new cam belt and tensioner - etc.....well you have to....

I just think I should get a once over on the bottom end and WE all dread the bill for repairs on that.

I know I have to decide on who to spend the money with........I could buy a decent Mondeo Tdci estate with what I am going to spend on my scoob - less honest people would sell it on without informing the new purchaser - the prob is i LOVE the car LIFE IS SO HARD SOMETIMES.

Thanks again for all your advice..

Another place if people need help round our way is Dai Jones - Camsport. Really cool dude - knows his stuff and fantastic to deal with - just loads on and I want to get her sorted asap
