Scotland
Well I am here. The drtive up did not go to plan.
Driving up the M80 to Perth and the CEL lights up. **** . 118118 puts me in contact with Ian Grieve Subaru in Falkirk. Gave him the code on the SECs unit and bingo , it's the crank sensor.
Pull in at the garage. Drop off keys have a look around, WR1, 02 STi Bugeye in WHITE, Turbo Classic Wagon in WHITE, mint RB5 as well as all the usual.
One hour later, warranty job done and I am crossing the Forth Road Bridge for a final blast up the A9. 123 miles of sweeping fab roads and only 2 Speed cameras.
Old road to Elgin today. Phh who needs mid-Wales runs.
SEC's as paid for it self already IMO. Grandson is fab. J O'Groats on Sunday.
SITREP on my return.
Regards
Ian

Holiday over and time to report.
Well, Grandson was fab. Scotland was a bit damp to say the least. BUT, the roads were just the K9 swingers.
Most of the way up it's M Way so big. But, north of Lancaster toward Penrith and beyond is quite good. Recommend Tebay Services
Anyway, past Perth the fun begins. A9 is a fantastic sweeping road up through the mountains past Pitlochry, Kinggussie and Aviemore, through the Cairngorms. Did a left turn and went down the A86 via Spean Bridge to Loch Ness and came in to Inverness from the South West. The scenery and ability to get the old Scoob to pick up it's skirt and go is fab. 579 miles so far.
But, better was to come. Decided to do the John O'Groats thing too. So, out of Inverness on the A9 over the Black Isle and Dornoch Firth up to Latheron. Now this road is a bit like the middle bit of the A470 but without the traffic, long straights, twisteys and some nice gentle running. The road runs along the cliffs most of the way up and is again breathtaking. If you fall off the next stop is Norway!
At Latheron we are now on the A99. Even less traffic but the roads are just as good if not better and now not as much up and down but flat. Now into Wick. One horse town but very good Wetherspoons for scoff.
Out of Wick and the road gets even better, really!. Not as wide or as well maintaned but good for some toeing and a bit of cruising all the way up to John O'Groats, which has a nice cafe, harbour, seals (the one that turn fish into ****, not the oil variety) and view of the Orkneys. But, what they do all day is beyond me because it is a vast expanse of **** all!
123 miles from Inverness to J O'G. There are Shell stations all over the place, no smoking in the pubs but being Welsh is a bonus (not a Sarsenache).
Tesco didn't do 99 and the Shell did not seem to go as far.
The cheapest M Way petrol was near Gretna Green north bound at only 91.9p for V-Power, about 300 miles up and just as the little orange fuel light came on. The southbound Texaco is a rip off compared to the other side of the road. On the way back the Golden Fleece truck services near Carlisle, J42 M6, do Ultimate again about 91.9p.
Then a run back down to sunny Wales!!! around 1800 miles later including the runs about Inverness.
Anyone else going up need info gis a bell.
