Default Blown lump..... Any Idea's ?

20'000miles after Subaru rebuilt my engine..... sounds like the piston has gone through the short motor again......

Not Happy.......

Do Subaru only give 12mth warranty on repair work ?

Do i just repair the engine or is it better to do the 2.5 conversion ???

you can argue that it should be 'fit for purpose and last a reasonable period of time'

I would suggest 20,000 miles is NO WHERE near being reasonable !!!

And particularly, if you say it is NOT the first time this has happened...... there may be some other thing that has been missed that is wrong with the car......

get onto consumer advice wales

Damn Tony That is bad news !

I agree with Phil look into this a little more on why after only 20k has this happened again.... I would not have thought that engine should not have gone already.

If your looking down the rebuild route there are many things to consider, a standard rebuild for one then a 2.2 then a 2.5.... where do you want your power band ? what's your budget ? will you change ECU's ?

Two of our guys are running 2.5's Tony so they can tell you about the plus points and negative points if you want to look down that route, if it was my money I think I would be looking at a tuned 2 litre or 2.2 at a push.

Gutted for you as we only spoke about this at the last meet and how you were safe to keep the car after having a new engine dropped in it

I assume you have spoken with P1mark about this ?

I had my gearbox rebuilt by Subaru in Cardiff and I'm pretty sure I've got a 3 year warranty on it from them.

I'd get someone to phone up (anonymous customer ) and tell them they're in need of some engine work and can they confirm what warranty will come with the work. That way you can then go back to them with your car, confident in the knowledge that you've got a 3 year warranty (hopefully!) and won't listen to any bullsh1t, should they try and fob you off (as if they would).

Spoke to Keith Price today and there is a 3yr warranty on the parts they fitted.... they need my car now to strip the lump out and investigate whats gone wrong.....

I'm a little bit dubious though as when it went there last time, they bumped my car and then lied to me and there was paperwork forged to make it look like i had caused the damage........

That's a huge relief on your wallet to find that you have a warranty on it Tony, just do an expection sheet for the car when you drop it off that way you can go back over on collection.... everyone is happy then.

i cant check the engine though.... I'm worried they might say its something else and wont honour the warranty....

Might be worth trying another dealership, they might be willing to look at it

Dealer service or home service. Because they might try and point the finger. But otherwise I can't see why there would be any problem with them fixing the problem they've caused. 20k is next to nothing really.

Had a phone call today from Keith Price's about the repairs on the car.....

The parts replaced in the engine when they rebuilt it in November 2003 are all shot to pieces... But they cannot replace them....

Why ???

Because if Subaru replace anything on your car under Warranty, that part only has warranty until your car warranty runs out.....
Yet if i bought the part over the counter, then it would have 3yrs warranty on it......

oh god, this is not looking good then. Does this mean that you will have to cover the costs yourself now or are you not thinking about that yet.

**** me, What a crap policy. I'd be writting to every person on the planet connected with subaru and the press.

Hope you get it sorted, but I don't think i'd be trusting them with the rebuild. Off to API then????

This cant be right, whats the point of a warranty if you cant claim.
If it was me I think I would be getting some expert advice on this matter.
Come on Subaru a chance to show some customer care and help someone out instead of just Take take take.

I have spoken to the Subaru Warranty people and they were no help at all...

They insist that the parts are only covered until the manufactures warranty runs out.... So a part fitted 2mths before your warranty runs out, only has a 2mth warranty.... yet if i bought it over the counter and paid to have it fitted, they'd give a 3yr warranty.......
