I always thought meets were a two way street, The first time I met the guys was three years ago in Magor service station at 3am!!!!! We then all headed up to santa pod for a weekend away. I didn't even know there names but once we got up there I made the effort and we had a great time. (They can't get rid of me now)

The meets have really grown in size, 18 months ago there would only be 8-10 cars, in the last couple of month we're getting 25-30. There are loads of new faces. Also the dark nights don't help. seems to drive everyone inside instead of chatting outside.

I can't say I've ever spoken to you, but I wouldn't say that was my fault!!

I'd say that some input on here is always a good start no matter how stupid the stuff you write is.

And I know hardly any of you in person.

I think you need to give it a bit more time, i've been to quite a few meets and am only just starting to get to know people. It's impossible to get to know 30 people that quickly. It is quite hard putting faces to the username and also then trying to remeber people's real names.

I'd suggest coming along to one of the next daytime meets. As previously pointed out, it's difficult to socialise around the cars when it's dark and raining so everyone tends to go into the pub, where they naturally split off into the established groups.

When it's light and the weathers nice, people tend to check out each others cars, getting ideas for cosmetic or performance mods. It makes it much easier to strike up conversation because everyone has a starting point.

Try coming along to one of the Santa Pod or car shows, I'm sure you'll find it totally different to the pub car park meets.

You've gotta open your mouth fella !

I'm in the same boat, I've been posting for months but have only been to the last two Junc30 meets. You get to meet certain people quicker than others, its just human nature !

I've even nabbed Daz to come and fix my windows (still waiting for the phonecall Daz ! ) but people are just as nervous about talking to you as you are talking to them so it works both ways.

Come & talk to me next time & we'll have a beer

Wink I have to agree

WRXewl, give it a bit more time... Now at the PS RR day I had a mega day out and i agree some fellas like big Daz and Si are very gregarious (look it up Daz ) and to be honest make a club like South Wales Scoobies what it is...

On the other hand i can see where you are comming from.. from the outside i would agree it looks like there is a bit of a click going on, but these people dont know you either, and as mentioned before it is a two way street.

Certain members Silverscoobysport (Blue car) and Pippyrips for instance talk to people as a matter of course when they first turn up at meets. Maybe other senior members should take some more responsibility, from the outside looking in, you may seem a cold bunch...........

I have been to only a meet at J30 and the Powerstation RR day (which was awsome... you missed a mega day) and still need to get a few faces to peoples names and sign in names.

It was suggested that we would have badges for the PS RR day which would break the ice and get people talking to each other, without that whats your name barrier cropping up.

Any other good ideas for ice breakers, it is daunting going into any new group, whats your opinion??

Cheers Paul

Might be a good idea to get everyone to post a picture of there car and there real name and possibly even a pic of themselves to make identifying people easier.

I gotta agree with No Cat STi mate

I too have only been to the last meet and the Powerstation RR day and while i dont usually just wander up to people, i found the south wales scooby guys all very cool, friendly and willing to chat bout anything. I only know a few faces to the gents kev,big brakes, lom the bom, turbo dean etc but fully intend to get to chat to some more peeps again and put some names to faces. Though before i was told bout this forum i was happy with my sport, now i cant wait to get rid and get my self a turbo( still cant decide between bug eye and a classic) so i reckon thats gotta be a bad influence in a very good way

Roll on the next meeting and the lighter evenings

Cheers

Sorry you feel that way about it but i think you need to give it another go It is difficult to get around everyone on the night and have a good chat.
There is no click just groups of people that know each other so these people tend to get together for a chat, its what you do talk to your mates. we have had a lot of new people latley and most seem to be settling in nicely you are not the only one who is new and at the end of the day its a two way thing you also have to make an effort.

Smile ID it's the way forward

I agree with turbo dean, some form of IDentification would break down the barriers

At the Powerstation RR day we had forms to register our selves and our cars... How about something similar on our cars at J30 etc meets put it in the window at the front of the car so others can read who the car belongs to and what work you have had done on the car, maybe even your RR day graph next to it to stop the Bull***t.....

Or what abou these T shirts, with name and sign on name on them v easy to spot the person by the head sticking out of the top of said t shirt

It's easy to say make an effort, but it is daunting first time (or maybe second time as well) to walk up to strangers and just chat, we are not all bold outgoing types... just an observation

The increase in numbers recently goes to show how far we have come on, i say lets promote ourselves and encourage others, the more the mereir really...... as long as there is enough carvery to go round

Cheers Paul

What some of you guys may not realise is that the numbers turning up for the meets have tripled in the last 2-3 months
That one night 2 meets back... Kev organised it and I said we better get there early as it is a nightmare when everyone arrives before you and we stood there with about 3 cars parked up and the next minute Danny and Nova arrived with 8 cars following them Now I can't repeat what I said to Kev on here but we were stunned and Danny just looked at us and said they just appeared behind me !! even he was shocked and I don't think we knew any of them at the time

Up until then we had the same old gang of about 10 cars now we have 30 !!

I'm not brilliant at socialising all the time... you may not think that but when you organise a meet your forced to the front and have to get on with it... it's difficult to remember all the names I'm getting old now and it has taken a lot of work to get the name of our club sorted plus stickers and now the shirts are just about there... when it's all in place I can have a rest here

Sometimes it can seem like you are being left out I suppose but until everyone knows each other a little better it's only then you can relax. I know your not the first person to feel a little daunted by it but as I've said it's grown so fast in such a short space of time it has been really difficult to welcome each person individually... it may not come over like that but that is the way it has been, me I just want someone else to organise a evening one at some point so I can just sit back chill out and relax
I'l be very happy to get the next month over regarding the shirts and such then hopefully I can bring my famous slippers one night and put my feet up

Just to add I never knew anyone until I took out insurance for the old Sport with Simb one day he got me on here then it went from there. We never had this sort of organisation then it was just a few Pod trips plus Castle Coombe and that was about it..... It's got to the point now where when we go to Japfest I will have a whole list full of people that I post on here and on imprezasport with and I will end up hunting them all out and saying hello again... Rigpig could not believe it last year when I was talking to everyone How do you know all these people was the question.... the answer was well I don't really but I reconise all the cars
Now I blame simon for all the money I have spent and for the money I am yet to spend

I for one will not be walking around with my name on my shirt..... it was not my wisest moment... Silver Scooby Sport what was I thinking about
Should have gone for my name but Si already took it !!!!

Nocats I was going to come and say hello on the RR day but got completely sidetracked and never made it but I will at the next meet

Right I have a job for someone that has a laminator sort out a thread and get everyone's name and nick listed and make some badges up please

Failing that we will hire a room and try to adapt the speed dating theme one evening

2 minutes...
I'm Simon
I have a Subaru
I'm broke
Fuel it Expensive
I can't stop modding

Ding Ding... swap chairs....

I'm Simon
I have a Subaru
I'm broke
Fuel it Expensive
I can't stop modding

God what a nightmare thought

PS crazychick.... Steve needs his own identity... when we go to a meet he is known as crazychicks other half and not by his own name

Right fingers are numb here.....

After all that typing you will get RSI, perhaps the group should split, silver, blue, green, oh and of course red,.

john dont forget white (its the new blue dont you know).
wrxexl i hope to god you do come to other meets,i know how you feel, 4 years ago i moved from wales to warminster id been to meets here and thought i would go and meet some new people,i went to a pub in the middle of nowhere and had the worst time of my life,at the time i blamed the organiser but he did come and speek to me and was very nice but i didnt want to look a di*k and something stupid so i kept my mouth shut, this wasnt his fualt it was mine.how things change since moving back 2 years ago and a few meets later we have a very good bunch of lads and i feel priveliged that i know a few of you,as si said i dont know everybody but am trying,in my job i have to have conversations with people i dont know that stands me in good sted to chat to people at meets.what you will find as most of us have that you will click with someone and become good freinds and make your meets more enjoyable.up until rr day i hadnt met paul(no cats sti)and what a top bloke (apart from stiring about my car on the rollers).but that says it all there is no such thing as strangers just freinds we havent met yet.

John
well what about white then

is it cos me black

listen fella there was nobody that felt alone than me when i first went to the pod. i never had the advantage that you have had with at least seeing a few faces before a full blown weekend with a group of lads that i had never met before even if you never spoke to anybody you still had a big advantage over what i had.
so on that weekend i made a special effort to get to know these people even if they might have not wanted to know me because i was not there for 2 hours and back home,i was there for the bloody weekend
so right in at the deep end as they say

there are so many new people joining and turning up to these meets at the moment that most of the guy's don't know where they coming or going

i can see where your coming from fella when you say click but it's far from it, it's just that they've known these people for a few season's now and only really get a chance to have a good natter about things is at the meets
(well maybe that would only be me)

I noticed you've named some names and if i may say so myself these are top boys that will go that extra yard for you so you'r on the right track
others that i got to know on these little strowls up to the pod that will go that exxxxxxxtra mile for you (this is from my own experience only)
