Default Can anyone recommend a good Subaru specialist?

I originally posted this in the general area. But thought I'd get a better response in the Wales area (cheers Silverscoobysport). I'm just looking for a specialist in or around South Wales to do a service and probably a cam belt change on my '99 Impreza Turbo with 30k miles. When I spoke to the main dealer I nearly had a heart attack when they told me how much it would cost. Cheers.

It's goner cost a fare bit no matter where you go. I had mine done at API in November and I beleive SSS had his done the other week. £360 +Vat rings a bell. The camb belt is a bit of big job as the rad has to be removed. API much cheaper than subaru and only a couple of hours drive up to them.

As an aside to the cost, the brother-in-law has a 2.2i vtec prelude which was very low miles but was over due a cambelt change due to the age of the belt.

He did not get it done and hey presto pop bang whizz it decided to fail when he was on his way up to the lake district!!! He had pulled up at the services, switched off had a coffee, went back to the car which started first time as aways and then decided to cut out.

RAC arrived belt had failed, damaged valve guides, valves etc etc. Don't want to be a worry merchant but he paid £1500 to get his fixed and I would imagine a scoob would cost the same to repair at least (I may be wrong).

If it was me I would get it changed, it might cost you £360 + but it's cheaper than an engine rebuild.

Out of interest guys was that price including tensioners and idler pulleys???????????

Anyone fancy a career change? Is it time to open Powerstation\API combo in somewhere like Taffs Well? Venture capitalists step forward now. Daz for Dragons Den.

Thanks for the advice. I'll definately have to get the cam belt changed. I don't even want to think about the consequences of it snapping and around £360 + vat sounds reasonable. I think a trip to API is in order.

Sorry if people already know this.......just thought you'd like another option for servicing in the South Wales area.

ACE Motorsport based in Newbridge (opposite the Red Lion underneath Chris Bowen Motors), is run by Andy Card (ex Prodrive WRC Mechanic).

Not only do they run serveral rally cars (some ex-WRC Imprezas), they also offer servicing for road cars.

Why not give them a call - I'm sure they'll be able to help you.....they definitely know the product

Workshop number is 01495 244555

Regards

Just reading this and think to myself, at 30 k the cambelt is not imperitave. Just because its been on for a few years does not mean its got to be done, and I do feel its rather **** of Subaru to get everybody feeling like their cam belts has to be done, mines done 34k qand in the sceam of things 2 years and it will be due 90k service , which entails a cambelt change. My car will have covered by then 46kish and had 2 cambelts
