MY93 RIP
hiya guys, havent got around to meeting you all yet, (im sure that will change) have owned a 93 wrx for around 3months now and to be honest its put me right off scooby ownership. within its first 3months i have had to replace rocker cover gaskets (£140) coil packs (£313), then started boosting funny, and now the big end is knocking have spoken to API and dave said it was going to cost around £2-£2.5 to rebuild it, i didnt pay much more than that for the car, and being a student i cant magic up that kind of money. apart from the engine being wonky the bodywork is sound, transmission is fine, car has a tracker (so not sure if i could transfer that or sell it)
So any suggestions would be welcome, or if someone can restore my faith and love in the humble scooby i would appreciate it.

Sorry to hear your having so much trouble, trust me when I say your not alone though. I only had my car 9 days and it decided it only needed 3 pistons so it could eat the 4th.
You couls always look for a complete second hand engine, I've seen them go for around £800 then get it swapped over.

Whenever buying such an old car you need to have a couple of £k behind you as these is much more likely to happen the older they get.
Having a high performance car and <£3k just does not go together.
Get the engine sorted and you will still only have £5k? in the car and going forward if you look after it service wise it will reward you with fuss free trouble.

spen555 is right you will never get hassle free motoring from a 3k scoob.i do recomend api but if thats to much money why not get the bottom end from api and try getting someone who knows cars to fit it for you you could prob save 1/4 of the cost but you wont have a waranty.try it your self.dont get too down weve all been there but were theres a will theres a way.

Sorry to hear your bad news.. As mentioned, no matter how old your Scooby they can cost you a small fortune.. in your posistion, I'd be inclined to flog it and wait until you can afford something newer..

Any mods on the car ?
If the book price is really very low it may be worth considering breaking it for spares. For example if it has the genuine splash gaurds on it they are worth around £120 to start plus with the new parts that you have fitted already, even a broken engine has a value then interior and body shell.
Ok it will take some work but it may be a viable option.

Spray WD40 in the fuse box and set fire to it.....
Always an option, get the insurance money and forget about scoobies.
Buy an economical car and put all your efforts into getting a good education then once you have a decent job get back into scooby ownership and buy a good one.

David will sort you out, she should be like a new car when you get her back.
If you were nuts you would of spent 16.5K on a rebuild like that nutter did in last months Jap performance. Me thinks he was ripped off big stlye, Simb paid less than half of that with API on his monster rebuild and i'm sure he'll end up with better BHP and torque figures as well.

My advice is find a legacy turbo short block. Do the job for a while??? Some cheap ones knocking about. £300-500. Put that in your sorted. Obviouisly you don't know if you'll get a month or years out of it but its best idea if your money is tight at the moment?

I reckon a number of Subaru owners must be related to that woman who won the pools all those years ago, that when asked what she was going to do with it, she said ' spend, spend, spend !!
Curiously enough, she doesn't seem to have many relatives in Scotland........
£16,500 on an engine rebuild !!
We'd have done it for £16000
Thanks for the order and the vote of confidence seab, try not to fret too much whilst ' she's ' gone.
Thanks for the recommendations fellow South Walesers.
We're working on finding a new bacon butty shop as the old one closed down at Xmas. Hope that wasn't the only reason you all come here.
Good Luck all - David APi

I need a service too. I'm undecided whether to get it done at API or CVC. I would have had it done at Powerstation but it's virtually the same price as CVC so it's worth keeping the FSSH.
However API is quite a bit cheaper, except for the tank of fuel on top. However if there's a couple of cars going up it'll be worth it for the trip.
