Gauges and pods
Well, here we are 1 full day into the 2006 and I've decided to buy some gauges. Unless anyone warns me off or recommends a better or more cost effective purchase, I'm going in on the autogauge group buy on SN and SIDC (http://www.gaugeplace.com/).
I've decided on the boost (bar) and oil temp gauges (Stealth 2 BOOST GAUGE (BAR) and Stealth 2 OIL TEMPERATURE GAUGE) and now need to find a decent "A pillar" pod. Anyone suggest a good pod like this and if so, where from?
There's a nice one on scoobyworld (A Pillar Twin 52mm Pod New Age) but I'm not sure how it'll fit over my alarm sensor, (oh, and it's £45 which seem a lot).
Cheers

Fair do's Richie you need no encouragment what so ever
Right if it was my money I would look at doing something along the lines of a centre 3 gauge pod....
Then I would have Boost, Oil Temp and maybe Water Temp as the 3rd option. I'm not a huge fan of the pillar pods but that's my personal taste.
The pod above is just to give you an idea, it's carbon and expensive
I'll see what else I can find about the place later.
How's that fella
Simon
PS spot on GB as far as I'm concerned !!

Hi Si/Ian,
I thought about a centre pod but I'm not sure I want one, it seems a bit too much and I think I'd refer something a bit more subtle. I quite like the pillar pods and have found one on rickyracing.co.uk (recommended by a newage scoob drive "scoobytoo"), the only thing I'm unsure about is how they fix onto the pillar. If drilling or screwing into the existing pillar is required then I'll think again.
scoobyworld are doing a pretty good one but it doesn't look like it caters for the pillar mounted alarm sensors.
scoobyworld:

Rich, I'm also going to go for a gauge. Thought about just boost but think oil temp is a good one aswell although I'm pretty careful about warm up and cool down. What do you think of the 2006 270 degree gauges? Only £5 differnce so not a cost issue just taste. Also which is best PSI or BAR? Everyone seems to talk in BAR but which is the one to have???

Hi Gaz,
I'm going for the Stealth 2 Boost Gauge
and the Stealth 2 Oil Temp Gauge
Both of them are the new 52mm, smoked glass face, 360 degree sweep gauges that have a "Full opening Ceremony 0-360-0 needle sweepcheck on start up"
I don't really think the "bar" or "psi" are better or worse than the other, I'm just used to referring to my boost as "1.2 bar", because that's how Rich at Powerstation referred to it. Had he said PSI I guess I'd have followed.
Kev - thanks for the offer but a SECS unit is a bit too pricey for me at the moment and TBH, I fancy the idea of gauges, I think they look
(might need a hand fitting the gauges and sender though! )

Gaz - for the oil temp you'll also need one of these to connect the oil temp sender to the engine.
Part number - LMA067 from http://www.lma-group.com/motorsport/...ing_parts.html (£3.70)
See SIDC link for details (if you haven't already) http://forums.sidc.co.uk/messageview...threadid=49878
If you only want one guage but still want the group buy price let me know and I'll order 3 for £95 and you can pay me back £31.66 for your gauge. I don't think you can only buy one in the GB offer.

Rich did you ask Nick at Autogauges about pods?
Do we get a better discount for 4? Like the idea of two gauges now.

No, I haven't asked about pods. I've emailed him to confirm the cost and payment method. Apparently he only takes paypal which is no good because I've exceeded my paypal spend limit.
I'll give him a call tomorrow morning and let you know.

rich ive got a single piller pod on mine, and i fitted one on the old one, there ok but you get different types, if the one you want covers all the piller up, go for it but if its just the pod, you have to drill holes (for the wires, and then 2 for the fixings),and then if you want to take it off your left with holes.if i was buying fresh id get the secs it looks far tydyer than anything else ive seen on the new age.

What about this type, do you know if it still needs to be screwed on or does it slot over or replace the existing trim? http://www.nomadracing.com/catalog/p...roducts_id=425
Thanks,
Rich.

I do know I don't want to damage the existing pillar trim so I think I'll buy the gauges and then bide my time until I decide how I want to fit them, (ie. spend £65 and then stick them under the bed for a couple of months )

Rich,
zerosports sell a newage pod that sits on top of the clock so you get to have both, though the best pod is a defi style pod - you can get replicas for £50ish

Any idea of somewhere that sells a decent Defi style pod?

These are not cheap but they are quality if they are anything like the corner pods both me and Kev have got.... a decent pod will show the gauges off a treat.

I don't know how cheap you could go before the quality drops off
