Tinted windows
Just had a phone call off my mate who has the windows of his ST24 tinted with the same film as mine, he was pulled by the police and Vehicle Inspectorate in Caerphilly this morning and told his tints on the front were illegal and they had to be removed today otherwise his vehicle would be taken off the road and he could be fined upto £2000... What gets me is the number of Police cars i've been alongside since I've had them done and nothing's ever been said, now all of a sudden they've decided to enforce it...
Guess what i'll be doing this morning..
And it looked so nice too..

Hi there.
I think it's a real shame that enforcment on tinted windows is with us, I mean - what next? - are they going to fine you for wearing sunglasses whilst driving in the future?!
There is too much emphasis made to spoil things for other people due to a small number of incidents caused by a minority. I'd guess that the number of insurance claims made by people involved in a bump, where tinted windows were REALLY the reason of the incident, is small. I could be being harsh here, since I have no figures to quote - but I've never heard of any incidents where tints were at fault.
I was amused by the quote - '...they had to be removed today otherwise his vehicle would be taken off the road...'. Oh no worries officer, I'll just skip going to work because I have to get my car windows sorted. Yeah right, get real. The least they could do is give a person time to sort it out, regardless of how tinted the windows are. I know that 30 days is often quoted by others who have been stopped.
A friend of mine got stopped, he was told to remove the tints within 30 days. He also got a £30 fine. What a cheek.
Sorry for the bad mood of this message, it's stories like this that make me a bit miffed. I just wanted to get it off my chest.
Ahhh, feeling better now - back to my lunchtime sarnies. Mmmmm, sarnies.
later.
Jas.

Scrappy - what tint are you using? I've got a light tint on mine (surposedly) and although it looks black from some angles, you can see into the car without too much trouble. I expect it looks darker cos its on a black car.
I've no idea what % it is, it was done by Keith Price when I picked the car up !

I'm not sure what the tint is called GerethE... it doesn't look to dark to me, but then I'm not a copper..
McClyfar.. I'm only going on what he said, I've spoken to others today and I've been quoted between 7 to 30 days.. I've left them on for now, we'll see how we go.

The required limit is 70% VLT, now this is pretty neat condsidering most manufacturers tint from the factory is in the 25%-30% range.

So where have you been then !!!!
As soon as I saw you'd posted on this thread I knew it'd be a dig at me, lol
Yes, they are dirty, but until Subaru put washers on the side windows they'll have to stay that way
Still the car will be in for a 40,000 service soon and perhaps those nice peeps at Keith Price will wash the car again for me (or else )

Same happened to me when I had the Warrior truck....rears are tinted as standard which is fine, but I had thr front side windows done to match. Took it for it's first service at LHT Swansea and I actually had to sign a disclaimer before they would let me drive it off the forecourt.
In all fairness though....they did offer to remove it free of charge!! yeah right!
I was quite happy to take my chances until I was pulled over and the new owner was of the same opinion!!

Chip....no m8....I toyed with the idea for a while but decided against it.
Warrior had to go.... it was a really nice novelty for a while but it was just toooooo slow!
Eventually bought an E46 BMW 328ci se coupe, black, tan leather, eighteen inch wheels, harmon kardon stereo upgrade and so on.... not fast like a scooby, but fast nonetheless!
