Thumbs up Hi all From a New OZ-Welsh Member problem though.

Hi all

just joined.

I wonder if you knowledgeable ppl can help me.

I fitted a Forge dump Valve yesterday and ever since, after the accelerator is depressed and released. the engine dies and sometimes stalls.

I have checked all the pipes for splits or cracks, and can't see anything.

Anyone come across this problem ?

Your help would be much appreciated.

Oh by the way it is a 93 WRX Jp import.

regards
OZ

As above but there should be a little screw on the side. If you turn it ever so slightly it may help. When Dump v's are installed into a car it sometimes causes idling probs etc so have a fiddle with that screw. failing these things, bin it and buy an HKS. Personally i like the re-circulating valves. You still get a little noise without the probs.

BTw welcome to the site.

Cheers for the replies.

As for the DV I have checked all the hose connections. and checked the diaphragm and the spring all seem Ok. What does make a difference is when I take off the small hose from the top of the DV and blank it off with my thumb. After a slight rev.The revs do not drop down to stalling level. So definately something to do with the DV I think.

But would the dv work on slight revs or would it only come in to play when the turbo comes in.

As for the power of the car there is no loss of power and it is dumping the air.

Any more suggest ?

Regards

Hiya mate,

Yeh the prob is more than likely related to the DV. Even tho you have checked the spring it might be weak and need replacing but my bet is that it is the idle speed control vavle if it has one. I know the HKS sequential one does for sure but not sure about the forge.

So basically the idling problems occur after acceleration and not when you are just letting the engine tick over for a short period of time. With a dump valve (blow off valve) the air is not recirculated into the air intake, it is vented to the atmosphere so there is less air, but the cars ecu thinks that this air is going into the intake, so compensates for this by allowing the appropriate fuel for it so you are left with an ECU which is compensating for air which is now not there, thus the mixture is too rich and the car now has an idle problem when coming off the revs.

This is why manufacturers fit most turbo cars with re-circulating blow off valves (Bov's) cos it sends the right amount of air back and the air to fuel ratio is all nice and happy.
A re-circulating Bov will give a better turbo response after a release or after braking, so it's much better in rally or fast road use.

Hope this helps.
