Andy I'm so pleased I knew you would be back your a top man and it's great to have you back. Be good to see it at the meet next if you can make it. Love the hawkeye I'm sure you'll put your stamp on it soon enough good lad
well, spent all weekend cleaning the car 2 coats of polish and a coat of sealer,I really think you get to know your car better after giving it a good clean.
The cars pretty good given its age put there is plenty of room for improvement so it will be an on going project which I,m looking forward too,I dont feel so bad taking an older car to bits just could not bring myself to do it to a new car,a couple of questions I,d like to ask and would be grateful for any input as allthough I work with my hands every day I don,t know much about engines and the like so,
1 The TMIC on the car looks tatty If I order one is it easy enough to change,it doesn,t look complicated but am I missing something.
2 Ive dipped the oil and allthough its hard to read it seems a little low ive ordered some Millers but wondered how much to add from low to full,I know your going to say keep checking the dipstick but is there a rule of thumb.
A mention for Greg the headlights had Flyeye overlay on them which I didnot like so took it off.

After looking closely at the car over the last week decided I couldnot live with the tyres all being different so decided to look around for some replacements and guess who were the cheapest I could find????? ASDA,I know your saying WTF but I just booked the appointment for Tuesday morning at a tyre fitting centre 2 miles from my house at a time that suited me
.Anyway decided on Nankangs as I,ve heard good things about them so lets wait and see if this plan actually works, all seems to easy, plus you dont pay ASDA you pay at the fitting centre.Ive also bought some nice wheel nut just to finish it all off.

Well so much for ASDA tyres a complete wast of time, rang the garage just to confirm the appointment and they cant supply the tyres on the appointment day will have to wait till the end of the week.FFS its only 4 tyres so I,m going elsewhere all sounded too good to be true and was.Lesson learnt.
Well its been a busy month working on the car getting things done the way I like them, also have had the car serviced which caused a problem, after restarting the car we noticed a strange noise, turned out to be the cam belt which I was told had been changed, which on inspection it had but unfortunately it must have been changed by Stevie F.....ing Wonder.so new belt, tensioners and waterpump. So to Today and the reason for this post.Today I have mostly been sprucing up the front end of the car a little bit of wax here a little bit of lacquer there and thats where the problems began.
I noticed I had overspray on the drivers front light so I tried to remove it with thinners HUGE MISTAKE. As i rubbed the lens it left a white film on the lens that instantly dried hard, after much polishing with all sorts of cutting compounds the lens looks misty.Anybody know of anything that might help to rectify the problem or does any one know of a reasonable replacement any help would be gratefully recieved.

Try using Meguiars Headlamp Refresh Kit, that should be able to sort out the problem or even better use the kit plus a machine polish with a very fine compound.
I hope it all goes well.

Well thanks for the replies,I bought the Meguiars Refresh Kit which included the cutting paste, some fine production paper of varying grades and a buffer to fit into a drill so a few minutes with the Makita cordless and the jobs a goodun.
It has made me aware of two things I did not know,1 you cannot use thiners on plastic (should have read the tin first) 2 I never realized that the lights even from a breaker let alone brand new would cost so much, makes you realize why so many cars get broken rather than repaired.
