Theyre not solid, theyre rubber. Its a four piece kit.
The original mounts are designed to keep noise vibration and hardness to an absolute minimum. Subaru didnt want to alienate large chunks of the market by stiffening things up to a point where some of the customer base would find the noise and vibration unacceptable.
For the vast majority of enthusiastic owners the noise and vibration of a stiffer mount kit isnt unacceptable. Because the original mounts are nice and soft they allow significant engine and transmission movement. This results in gearlever movement and the mass of the engine/transmission effecting the vehicle on gear changes and on sudden application and lifting off the throttle.
By fitting stiffer mounts you do have a little vibration at idle but the control overe the engine and transmission mass more than makes up for this.
Its a very popular conversion and we have many happy Impreza customers who have fitted the mounts

Got a set from you earlier this year, got thew gearbox mounts done no problem. Having removed the pitch rod and the engine mount to subframe nuts went to lift the engine to allow acces to the engine fittings and the whole front of the car lifted. Had a good look round could not see anything else to undo, would you say it is the mounts stuck to the subframe or I have I missed something? Tried to lever the mounts off the subframe did not budge.
Thanks for your provision of a excellent product and I hope you can help me so I can get the engine mounts in. steve

Theres only one nut holding each mount to the subframe, if you undo the nut then the engine should just lift up. Obviously you have to undo both mount nuts, you cant do one at a time.

Both nuts removed and it still would not budge. As I said I tried a bit of gentle persuasion with a hammer and a large screwdriver but to no avail. Hold it, I think someone just turned the light on !! The car will rise on it's suspension as the engine is lifted then once the suspension has travelled fully the engine will lift. What a dope.

Sorry Bren, I know I’m emailing you the same questions as on here but just for reference, what exactly is the difference between the gearbox mounts? Is it the rubber compound or a physical shape difference?

Thats intresting - i know there are some guys on scoobynet that have used an uprated sti 5 speed part with the 6 speed conversions but im guessing it would always be better to use the propper job
Thanx for the advice Bren!
